Questions about drop shocks
I'm pretty new to this site, but been in the Chevy truck game for awhile. Here's my 87 Chevy half ton. I originally dropped the truck with springs in the front and shackles and hangers in the rear for a 3/4 drop, i also did drop shocks at the same time. I left it that way for a few years until recently i installed spindles and a flip kit and notch, so now the trucks around a 6/10 drop and the old shocks are blown. Short of going with another $250 set of drop shocks are there any substitutions you guys know about? someone said something about some gabriels from Autozone for around $20 each would work, but i need some more info about them like part numbers etc.
Here the truck: |

Re: Questions about drop shocks
Welcome to the forum..
I don't remember what I paid for them, but drop shocks for the rear were not very expensive ..some people prefer extenders with regular shocks. I have stocks in front (1.5" drop springs) 3" drop spindles. Love the truck..More pictures! Do you have a close up of the center cap? |

Re: Questions about drop shocks
If you build some extended shock mounts which work just fine, and offer better choices if you go crazy with drop or lift.
Then you could use some 3/4 or 1 ton Gabriels, and have a nice stiff shock to help prevent bottoming out. My friend used these on his 5-7 72 C10 back in the day, and it rode great. |

Re: Questions about drop shocks
Ok thanks guys, yeah there's a guy local that makes front shock relocaters and he said with them I could run stock shocks up front. I just didn't know if any one here has ever tried them or not. And I also found the shock relocators for the rear, just didn't know if this was the way to go. And yeah I have more pics of the truck I'll upload them tonight.

Re: Questions about drop shocks
Welcome 87' to the forum...I had the same issue with my fronts.. KYB's lasted no time and busted all to pieces.. Bought the Gabriels I believe you might be referring to and was very pleased...for the first 100 miles that is.. then they settled to the point of explosion themselves.. Bought Belltech drop shocks for somewhere around $80.. I've had them on for several 100 miles now and so far so good but we'll see.. Hope this helps some

Re: Questions about drop shocks
Get yourself KYB Gas A Just shocks. Run shock extenders front and rear for best ride. A longer shock has more room to travel and gets less hot.

Re: Questions about drop shocks
Shock extenders in the rear and stock shockes work great. Your c-notch in the rear helps alot. this safes u money to play with the front to get the ride u won't.
