Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

The one common theme with the porterbuilt stuff is top quality. And I agree from what I have seen.

But an obvious downfall for me is the lack of even the most basic instructions and/or parts list. I know they are busy. And that is great for their company. But for people like me who are new to this kind of customization, it is extremely frustrating. I have been modifying cars my entire life. Supercharger kits and turbo kits on almost everything I have owned that wasn't that way from the factory, extensive suspension upgrades on 4x4's and sports cars, etc.

I purchased a porterbuilt stage 1 rear kit and a adj track bar from a porterbuilt dealer. I had all the parts powdercoated and am ready to put them on. But I am lost on what bolts go where. Maybe it will be clear once I am under the truck with the parts laid out but since I have to borrow a lift at a buddies house, I can't find out at that point that I am missing something. My friend makes money using his lift. I can't tie him up. I did get a PDF for the track bar only after asking the dealer.

I have seen a ton of threads with people asking 'does this look right'. But that is the blind potentially leading the blind.

So to attempt to verify I at least have the bolts required, can someone that is familiar with the porterbuilt stage 1 kit look at the pics below and tell me where the bolts go???

This goes on the cupped bag plate I assume based on pics I have seen from other threads.

This looks like bolts that hold the plates to the bags. But there are 5 short bolts and one long one. I can see where 4 of the short ones could be used to hold the cupped plates to the bags. There are 2 bolt holes in each of those 2 plates. But where does the other single short bolt and the single longer bolt go? And what bolts are used to hold the bottom of the bags?

I assume these are for the shock relocation brackets that come with the stage 1 kit. Maybe it will be obvious when I get into it.

And I would assume this is for the shocks. But do I guess what order the little spacer, washers, and shocks go in?

Re: Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

Your first picture is the studs that screw into the top cup. You should see a welded nut on your cup it screws into. This will stick up thru the hole in your frame where the spring cup was bolted. Stick it thru then install washer and nut.

The third picture of hardware looks like bag mounting bolts and the two longer bolts that screw up thru your trailing arms and into the bottom of the bag . There be a hole in the trailing arm, where you removed your lower spring cup.

Your second picture looks like shock relocator bracket mounting bolts.

The picture of your shock mounts are in the correct order. Starting at the head of the bolt you have lock washer, flat washer,Shock cone shaped spacer . Stick the bolt thru the hole on our lower shock mount and install the last washer and nut.

Re: Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

I am 99% sure the bolts in the third pic are too big for the holes in the bags. But I didn't cut the bag open in case I was sent the wrong bolts. So I could be wrong.

I can try to eye ball it when I get home.

Thanks for the info by the way. I appreciate you taking the time.

Re: Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

You may be right about the short bolts but the long bolts have to be the ones that go thru you trailing arm into the bag.
You would think they would pack upper bag mounting bolts and lower bag mounting bolts in the same bag. I would dry fit a bolt to the cup and bag and then you'll know for sure which length to use.

Re: Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

Ya since they are sorting and packing the hardware themselves (I assume anyways) I wouldnt think it would be to hard to add a small label in the bag saying what it was for, or even just an A, B, C etc.

I have the stage 1 front kit and a trailing arm conversion that should be shipping soon so sorting hardware will be in my future as well

They used to use a 'sharpie' w/the info tagged on the bags.

No sharpie on mine. They may have changed that practice.

Re: Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

I'm about to experience the same thing. None of my bolts are marked and really no clue how to install everything. I figured when the time came (hopefully soon) I will be calling to ask for an instruction sheet.

t76turbo-

Apologies for the delay. We do our best to respond to all tech. questions in a timely manner. Sometimes you get lucky and hear from me on the weekends... sometimes I can't reply until Monday. Today was a hairy one, and I wanted to stay late to make sure I was able to respond to clear up all the questions and confusion.

I will be the first to admit that we have been lacking good detailed instructions on a few of the kits and parts we make. However, we have been doing our best to work through all our products and put together concise and clear installation instructions. The Stage 1 kit has is one of the more simplistic kits we make and fairly generic in it's assembly... so it has not been at the top of the priority list. We do have some less detailed instructions and pics that should help you. I will be happy to send them over in an email. In regards to a hard copy of instructions being supplied in our kits... we have not supplied them in the past, and will most likely never do so. Our new webstore we are finishing up will automatically email a PDF of instructions that correlates to whatever part is purchased off the site. Until then, just send us an email request and there you go. Some of the instructions are currently better than others, but as I mentioned, we are working on correcting that.

I will cut and paste the information here in the thread in a few more minutes.

You will not have to worry about sorting hardware.
We have been for several weeks now, and are currently boxing all items separately with a correlating hardware kit that is boxed and labeled individually. The hardware kit is labeled to match the correlating part number and is boxed or packaged individually inside the larger box with the correlating part.

The kit in question was packaged prior to this. The current kits that are being shipped are packaged and labeled extremely well. We are making improvements all the time over here. Trust me, I wish I could snap a finger and have it all done at once... but unfortunately it's been a process.

No more sharpie... we went a little more high-tech. Cool thermal label with new PB logo.

Re: Porterbuilt confusion. No instructions.

I just recieved my stage one front kit. Everything was packed individually and all boxes were labeled with a part number ( Real Labels not sharpies ) The hardware was in the individual box with parts. I can see a big difference from my first order. Keep up the good work Nate.

Got the sheet Nate.

The parts list as well as the descriptions of how things are installed definitely helped. Thanks again.
