Opening a can of worms about 2wd lifts-prerunner style
ok, so lets get everyone riled up about this again, i have found old threads but they have died, i know dino over in the 60-66 section has a prerunner truck. im looking now at either switching my ideas to either my current 70 or buying another truck, to build the "prerunner" look, doesnt quite have to be as snazy and effective as dinos truck. so who has ideas on netting somewhere around 4-6in of lift out of a coil all the way around truck. ive heard of 3 in lift coils, but could you also run like 2 in coil spacers with those? would the control arms take that or could it never be aligned? the rear isnt as much as a prob, just because you could swap the trailing arms on top of the rear end and prob get close to 6 of lift. really dont want to do body lift because i want the suspension travel look more than just a lifted 2wd. pics and ideas? ive got some ill load later.

I don't think it will be a bad idea. Would be interesting to see a truck like this as a prerunner. Although a bench seat would make it a fun ride!!

Re: Opening a can of worms about 2wd lifts-prerunner style
Agreed, the white one is cool. I'd like it even better if it were a stock step side that was massaged and flared to be pre runner style but a bit more oem looking.

Would have never thought of making a prerunner out of a 67-72 but seeing some done, they look pretty damn good

Why not just use a 4X4?

Re: Opening a can of worms about 2wd lifts-prerunner style
Everything. Dont want to sound like a jerk so ill explain. Prerunners are mainly 2wd, some 4wd, but the 2wd is better for these reasons- less stuff to break, less weight, independent front suspension, a truck with a live front axle is gonna jump, ride and handle like poo. not to mention get damaged on the terrain your screaming across. You want all the travel you can get to absorb the bumps and jumps. People assume prerunners are wanna be 4wds, people lift 4wds for ground clearance and bigger tires, preunners arent for the height, but for the suspension travel, you jack one way up and your center of gravity raises, defeating your ability to handle corners. Notice these trucks i posted and all trophy trucks/prerunners arent sitting high, and dont hav fender wells, its for the bounce. When you look up pics of trophy trucks, real ones are pretty much all mid engine 2wds.

Re: Opening a can of worms about 2wd lifts-prerunner style
yea these are my favorite kind of offroad trucks. If there were any good places to run around on around my area I might be inclined to build one.
Yea about the 4x4 thing, when you see these trucks doing 90+mph over rough terrain its not about clearance its about smoothness and handling. When they go over a jump you see their full suspension unloads so its ready for the landing and settles down smooth and predictable. |

I do not typically like lifted 2wd trucks but that white 67 is AWESOME!

Love this thing!!! But that picture of the white one looks way better for suspension and steering. That black one looks like Pismo/Oceano Dunes. I have never seen it out there, but I will be on the look out for next time I go. Cool thread, Casey |

Not to highjack, but I'm into jeeps too, always wanted to do a Jeepspeed type build. This has changed my mind. I would rather have one of these trucks to build up. |
