Thanks...actually, this 85 will be used and abused. I ran it up to my ranch this weekend with a big load of fence posts. The guy who loaded me up with the forklift was flipping.

I got bored last winter and did a frame off restoration on my old ranch rig, an '80 K20 4x4. The restored '80 will be the "grocery hauler"!

Greetings from the "Newbie" in Mays Landing, NJ. I figured I'd send a couple of pictures of my 1985 K30 former USAF Ambulance cab and chassis that's been converted to a Fast Attack Brush Truck. 454 cubic inch, DRW, 4x4 with Factory Air and 3800 original miles.

Nice truck but couldn't have been a M1010 or M1028a2 (CUCV). M1010s were walk thrus for ambulance, M1028a2s were converted M1028a1s. NO CUCVs had factory air or 454s. No CUCV converted duallys had the narrow C&C rears, the M1028a2s had Dana 70s, the C&C have 14 bolts. It was most likely an ex USAF truck NON CUCV kind of like my ex US Army ex firetruck K30. IF it has a "D" as the 5th digit in the serial number then it was a CUCV. Mine was ordered for the US Army, factory stick shift 11,000 gvw, but not a CUCV. . Again, nice truck but it wasn't a CUCV.

GM72K10 - Thank you so much. That is exactly the information I was trying to find out. I erroneously concluded that since it was a USAF truck, that it was a CUCV, and since it was an ambulance, it must be a M1010. So it IS a military former USAF truck, however, NOT a CUCV. That answered a few questions mainly Why the solid cab (no pass-through) and why the factory 454ci. I really appreciate your knowledge.

I've even seen a Crew Cab USAF truck made out to LOOK like a CUCV but it wasn't.

Doug J - You're right, it IS too nice to use around my farm, And the truck is for sale.

I acquired it from a small town Fire Department that had ordered a new rig.

For the time being, I can spray down my shrubs, keep my dogs cool, Douche the neighbors, you know, some miscellaneous Mischief !

Nice truck man. Hard to score on any good looking old round bodies. Really hard to score on low mileage ones.

I just stopped by to say I'm jealous, and to check the starter and make sure the rear bracket is hooked up. I've gone and looked at a few 6.2s where they tossed that back bracket if they changed the starter because its kind of a pain to install, but it has to be there. If you aren't familiar with it, it is literally just another bracket that grabs a bolt on the back of the starter and helps support it. The bracket bolts to the block between the freeze plugs.
