Thoughts on a b&m th400 & cpp trans crossmember
Have a opportunity to pick one up, I have read good and bad. Price seems right but input from actual users would be great! It would go behind the gm crate 350 I just bought that jegs had on sale and replace a 4 speed granny. It comes with a cpp transmission crossmember also brand new.

The TH400 was originally designed to handle the TQ of BBC's, so they will rob a little power from a stock SBC. But, that being said... they are the best 3 speed slush box The General ever made.

Can I offset that with the correct torque converter? And what would be the correct stall speed?

Is everything stock? Just use the stock converter.

Re: Thoughts on a b&m th400 & cpp trans crossmember
For the most part it will be close to stock I will use a edelbrock 1406 carb, edelbrock 2701 eps performer intake, mallory 8548201C & hyfire and true ram 2 1/2" ram horns.
I plan to upgrade heads and cam down the road. I do not have a torque converter at this point, I will have to source one if I buy the th400. |

TH400 is a great transmission so if you want to get rid of the manual it's a great choice. Depending on your plans for the truck though you might be better served looking for something with an overdrive.

I know the the TH400 is a bullet proof transmission, I am looking for those of you with experience with the ones produced by B&M. I know some of you have to had some experience with them. Would you pick a new one up if the price was comparable to a rebuild?

Re: Thoughts on a b&m th400 & cpp trans crossmember
I have the B&M T400 behind a 450 HP 383 with a Gear Vendors OD and I have had no problems with it. I had it rebuilt and a shop in LA built the TC to match the gears and HP I have.
