Project 'Underated'
First off this site is awesome. I have been a member for years under a different screen name and have changed over to twinsspeedshop as this will be the theme of the truck. My wife and I have 2 yr old boy/girl twins and they are the inspiration behind the name and the truck.
I have had several of these truck through the years and the condition of the bodies have progressively gotten better each time. I bought this truck the tues before thanksgiving in 2013 and have been hard at it since. I cut grass for a living so we have some slow time from dec till April and the bulk of the work needed to be done by now. I have gotten it on the road and it will continue to be a rolling project as I go. To date I have done a color change from orange to blue, 5.3/4l60 swap, fuel tank relocation, disc brake swap with power booster, and bedliner. The theme of the truck is a 'shop truck' as it will be my daily driver to keep miles off of my new 13 silverado!! I have a few pics along the way but some of the early pics have been lost. I look forward to sharing with everyone on the site as there have been many nights of research on here with a lot of answers and great ideas !! Here is the truck to date and I will back track a little with photos from here and continue to update the thread. |

Re: Project 'Underated'
The paint was rolled on rustoleum since I wanted it to look old. I'm no painter nor body man so I did my best with the body filler and paint. The process was a definite learning experience but the results have turned out as close to what I had I. Mind as I could ask for

This is what the paint looked like before water sanding! The process I'm sure is almost as much work to make one look old as to make one nice!

Re: Project 'Underated'
This was the experimental side of water sanding to get the look I wanted. I still have to sand more on the rest of the truck this far. It has all been water sanded and finally scuffed with a scotch bright pad for the final dulling of the paint. Im also looking to do a door logo with Twins Speed Shop on the door. There is a local guy who does door logos but im not affraid to try it myself if anyone has any input on how they did theirs. Heck if it doesn't look good, I can just roll more paint over it and sand it back down!

Re: Project 'Underated'
My sister has boy/girl twins that are about 4 1/2 and my wife and I have boy twins that are 15 months so the theme caught my eye. I'll follow along

Re: Project 'Underated'
I always joke when we meet others with twins that it's nice to meet survivors!! Ours are great kids though, good sleepers, great eaters, and have been healthy minus the occasional cold!! Your twins are not much younger than ours, they turn 2 may 1st

Re: Project 'Underated'
I may have to use that line. Everyone that tells me that they'd love to have twins and I respond with just take them for the weekend and that'll change. Twins at a young age is like having 3-4 kids to care for . It's definitely challenging but the reward when things go well is awesome

Re: Project 'Underated'
You guys will survive and it'll be fun doing it. I have a set of boy/girl twins that are 19 years old and a 22 year old daughter too. Trust me when I say it goes WAY too fast.

Its already flying by...I don't get to see them but a couple of hours a day during the week due to work, but get to see them more on the weekends. But we are fortunate that my wife gets to stay home with them!!
