Front Frame Horns
Long story short I picked up a '66 Chevy C10. The front bumper had 1 bolt and some copper wire holding it on because the bolt holes wouldn't line up. After stripping it down to the frame my suspicion was right. The front frame horns were bent. If possible can anyone post a pic of give me a point of how far back the need to be lined up and set straight? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Front Frame Horns
Stupid question- but wouldn't the other truck sitting beside this frame be the same?

Re: Front Frame Horns
I'm sure it would be but I don't have a straight edge short enough to get in and check the frame. I was looking for a donor cab for that truck when I found the '66.

Or measure the holes on the bumper.

Re: Front Frame Horns
Also replacing the forward crossmember(under the radiator) would hlp. Looks like the upper passenger side hole for the bumper is missing as well.

Re: Front Frame Horns
I'm working on replacing that crossmember, I just want to straighten the frame to the correct position. I'm having trouble finding that crossmember. I have a '78(I think) frame that I'm going to steal it from. I know it's diff but considering my rad bolts to the rad support I figured I would be ok. All the bolt holes are there for the bumper, guess the way I took the pic it's hard to see.

From the picture, you are also missing the passenger side core support mount bracket on the frame.

I saw the difference in the crossmembers. So I'm guessing that just bolting it to the rad support is not good enough?? I'm going with the stock style radiator. |

Re: Front Frame Horns
The stock/oroginal style radiator does not have any provisions to bolt it to the radiator support. They sit in rubber lined saddles that are riveted to the radiator crossmember, The top is held secure with a rubber lined bracket that bolts to the radiator support along with the lower hood latch. Bolting in the correct crossmember will automatically set your frame wirth. I may have one of those crossmembers. I will take a look tomorrow.

Re: Front Frame Horns
I have a couple of them kicking around but the Captian is a lot closer to you and I would put it in before you start to play straightening it

Re: Front Frame Horns
Hey Capt, while you're digging around do you mind looking for the upper mount too?? I assumed the radiator bolted to the radiator support because that's how it was when I got it and my '63 had it bolted to the radiator support as well. Thanks

Re: Front Frame Horns
The radiator support needs the two forward frame mounts that bolt on the outside of the frame. The radiator sits on a crossmember inside the frame...the two parts you need. I have seen some of the earlier trucks (60-62) that had radiators that bolted to the radiator supports.

Re: Front Frame Horns
Heres a pic of the ones I have....the pass side and center crossmember look to be ok, but I will take a better look tonight. If you look at the inside crossmember, you'll see two holes around a foot or so apart....there are two lower radiator mounts that will bolt there and hold the bottom of the radiator. The two supports outside of the frame is where the radiator support will bolt on. This is a parts frame....I only need from the front crossmember back for my trailer project.

Re: Front Frame Horns
I'll know tonight when I get home. Do you need the pass side frame horn also? Or just the pass side radiator support and the inner radiator crossmember?

Re: Front Frame Horns
It came with a 6, I'm putting a 489 in it. That's the little support that uses the same bolts as the hood latch right?

Re: Front Frame Horns
Yes, but the v8 mount is different. The 6cyl mount is straight and the v8 mount comes up 90* to compensate for the larger radiator. I have a pic somewhere for reference.
These are pics of a members truck...hope rich doesn't mind. Heres the two different mounts. You use the same bolts and mounting locations and rubbers.

Re: Front Frame Horns
No, but they pop up in the forum classifieds all the time. Normally around $20 or so.
