Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
Guys, I am just abouot done with the motor and tranny build/swap. I am mounting my alternator and it just does not seem quite right. I do not remember if I mount off of the water pump or just the block. If I go off the block I seem too far back. Any pics of someone out there showing the alternator with brackets on a 350?? driver side mounted above the power steering.
I would appreciate any help!! thanks!!!!!!! |

Here is a decent pic of mine. Not sure it will help much or not. It mounts off the block with 2 brackets

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
I have a new water pump and chrome pulleys. You think the depth of stock pulleys is the same as the new chrome? Should be I would think?

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
Should be but put them together before you mount them to compare and check to make sure

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
Short pump is posted above by 1972SuperSB. That is the original configuration for these trucks. Alternator mounts on the driver side.
Long pump became standard on trucks in 1973 and newer. They mount the alternator on the passenger side. If you're using long pump, you need all of the long pump stuff, brackets, pulleys and everything. It's an all or nothing deal. One or the other....

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
I can't help you with the pulleys. I got burned years ago by aftermarket pulleys and have stuck to original GM ones ever since.
If your alternator is driver side mounted like the fellow posted above, you need to take your long pump back and swap it for a short one. Then its a matter of sorting through pulleys to line them up.

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
Weird, if you call anywhere on what water pump goes on this truck, all listed as long. I am mounting to steering pump tomorrow, that will show me too. Thanks for the help!

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
What info are you giving them to look up? It isn't the truck they should be looking up, but rather the engine/year you have.

Re: Mouting my alternator pic needed!!!!!
This brings back memories. I went to every swap meet trying to get a set for my '67 283 set up. Then someone on here told me there was an exhaust manifold that had a boss on it for another mounting bracket!. Here's some pics of that in case you get some pulleys.
I agree with TX firefighter-You have to use all the same pulleys and brackets or the belts will just not line up. Here's some pics but might not be what you are looking for.
