68 c30 to discs ?s

I checked out the suspension faq area on how to do this conversion and it confused me, so I thought I'd just ask.

I have a 71/2 3/4 ton with disc brakes on the front and I want to put them on a 68 c30.

Is it possible to keep the cross member and control arms on the 68 and use the spindles, ball joints, tie rod ends, ect from the 71/2?

Or do I need to use the control arms off the 71/2 as well?

I believe someone mentioned before no, the ball joints are different, not sure on the rest.

X-member and control arms are the same, but the ball joints and all the tie rod ends are different as well as the center link. When they went to disc brake, they made the tapers different on the ball joints and ends along with the thread size on the tie rods

So I have to take everything off the 71/2 minus the x-member and control arms and put all that on the 68 control arms and it will work?

Use the heavier parts from the later front end if at all possible. The factory did not beef up the steering gear to save money!

Much easier to swap the complete crewmembers,Imo. Also, an fyi your 68 has 1/2" lug stud and the 71+ will have 9/16", so you will have mismatched sizes that need t o be kept separate unless you swap the axle, or re drill.

Not a major issue, just thought I'd point it out. I have a similar issue from when I swapped a 8.5" GN axle I to my 79 Malibu. The rears are metric and fronts standard. I planned to fix it with a b body spindle and camaro 1le rotor swap, but haven't gotten a "round two it" yet, mainly do to the high priced upper control arms needed for the swap.
