How do I modify fact. auto column for use with 700 r4
What is involved in using a factory auto column 2speed with a 700 r4?
I have seen replacement indicators what else is needed? Thank you |

You shouldnt have to do much. With the 2 speed auto column (which I will be using with my swap later) will probably not have enough range to shift into Low gear manually. I dought the shift linkage will work either. I have found that these work pretty good. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lo...1800/overview/ and easy to set up.

Most people forget that the ratio of movement(throw) on the column and the trans has to be equal, especially if your column has detents for the different positions. A lot of transmissions are burnt up/fail prematurely because of incorrect selector positioning.
I can verify this from personal experience!. works the same the other way, too. if you have a vehicle that had a 700R in it and you install a TH350, the positions are not correct. If you're using a straight line linkage, make sure the distance from pivot to linkage attachment is the same on both the trans and the column. Another point is that linkage should be adjusted in Drive - place trans in drive, then column in drive position and adjust linkage accordingly for full engagement. Modifying the column for the correct throw is not difficult, neither is making a new lever for the trans. if using a PG column, I would shorten the lever at the trans to match the column so you don't run out of travel on the column. Altho you will still most likely give up the L1 position - but who really uses that regularly? Adjust for good P,R and D engagement. |
