Fan and shroud

My '65 has a 250 in it (though a bit newer one out of an early 70's camero) with no shroud around the fan and a constant run fan. I want to get a shroud for it, but am also wondering about getting a clutch driven fan instead. What all is involved in installing the clutch fan? Would it be better to go with an electric fan? This is a total bare bones truck. Dummy lights, no radio, no a/c,... What has me leaning towards an electric is for a quieter truck, what has me going towards the clutch fan in it sounds simpler to install and will at least not be running all the time. How does the clutch fan work?
On top of all that, though, I am not even sure that the temp light is hooked up to the sensor. Is it a direct wire from the sensor to the light or is it wired to a relay somewhere and then to the light?

Re: Fan and shroud

Most 6 cyl's did not have fan shrouds. To change from a fixed fan to a clutch fan, you will need a fan blade and the clutch assembly. I do not know if one for a V8 application will work or not. You will have to find the clutch with the correct bolt hole spacing for your water pump. Hopefully someone who has done the switch will chime in. The temp sending unit has a wire that runs thru the engine wire harness directly to the gauge or light.
