Rim and tire
I have a 1968 chevy c10 with a 3" , 5" drop. I was wondering what does my back space need to be on my wheels if the are 8.5 wide. I want to put on 20" wheels. Im not sure on tires yet

Re: Rim and tire
Do you know if you still have the original rear end housing in your truck? 67-68 housings are shorter than 69 (late build) thru 72 model year.
20x8.5 up front with 5.25" Backspace will fit nicely The rear depends on which housing you have... (I can tell you how to check if you need to know) Welcome to the board from TN

Re: Rim and tire
To be 100% sure (wheels are expensive) lay underneath the truck. Have a buddy hold one end of the tape measure on the inside edge of the brake baking plate. Then measure to the same location on the other side of the rear housing. 55.5" for the 67-68 rear housing, 57" for the 69 (late) 70 + housing. I have seen both in 69-70 trucks. 70 was the transition year. When discs were introduced in 71 the front track width changed so they had to adjust the width of the rear axle housing too. The later rear housings are .75" wider on either side. So if you have the late rear end it can mean the wheels fitting, or not fitting.
late housing - 20x10 5.5" Backspace. 295/40/20 tire early housing - 20x10 5" Backspace. 295/40/20 tire front - 20x8.5 5.25" Backspace 255/40/20 tire ( 45 series works too, it just depends on how much tire you want on it ) I ran 295/45/20 on a 20x10 with 5.75" Backspace on a late housing with 7.25" static drop but it was REALLY tight. Stock bed fenders, wood floor. Hope this helps.

Re: Rim and tire
I have the riddler 695's
20x8.5 0 offset 255/40r20 20x10 0 offset 295/40r20 with the narrow rear end Could have a little more bs on the front if I go any lower than 3" but it's good with 3/5 drop. |
