Anyone running wheel adapters on their 4x4?

Wanted to hear what anyone with adapters or who had used them has to say. Im in the process of getting my truck back together with a new trans. I got a set of 20"rockstars with 35s on them in trade and he had them on his tahoe. He included the adapters because they are universal 5 lug. They are the really nice 6x5.5 to 5x4.5 billet two piece adapters. I ordered the right acorn lugnuts, now i just have to trim the hub studs to make everything sit flush and torque everything. I just wanted to ask what success or problems anyone with them has had. I plan on playin in the mud some, bouncing around trails, pulling trailers, just using it like a work truck. I did some research because i was curious and from what i can see as long as i make sure everything is torqued and locktite and just keep an eye on everything i should be ok. Just check them every oil change roughly. Truck is a 94 ext cab z71 6 in lift. 350/built 4l60e with 373s.

Not sure why you'd want to run a tiny pattern. I don't trust two-piece adapters at all.

Have you used them? When i bought the truck it had some stupid looking 22s on it. I got rid of them and someone offered me a trade that included the rockstars with the universal 5lug pattern and the billet adapters. Im trying to get an idea from people who have used them if i should get rid of them for saftey reason or if im ok to use them with what i plan on doing with the truck.

Never used adapters, but I've used custom made spacers before. Very good quality, but pricey. I went with ones that were both hub-centric and lug-centric.

Using spacers on a truck that will be used like a truck is a bad idea. Using them on a 4x4 that you might go play with is a worse idea. Personally, I'd ditch the spacers/those wheels and get some wheels that fit.

Yea thats what im leaning towards. Ive had them before on an old 2wd just for driving with no problems. But now that im going to be using the truck alittle more aggressively id hate to have a wheel fall off.

I have a friend who bought a corvette with aftermarket wheels and adapters on it. He had one of the wheels break all the studs and come off. I think the problem was low quality studs that came in the adapter. He switched to rallies after that. I bought the rims and use them on my daily without adapters. anyway, I would try to avoid them and if you use them take some precautions. ( clean them, torque them, get good new studs)

Well usually I agree with the spacer idea. But I did install some on my son's 4x4. I was Leary as an old school wheeler should be. But the units we got were very stout. They have been on over a year, 4wheelin, daily driving and also on a 1400 mile road trip with absolutely no issues. So a hesitant as I was I have to admit they have performed admirably. I don't know if they have one for your application though. The manufacturer is spidertrax. I don't think they make a Chevy app but that said there may be a similar product out there.

I forgot what we were talkin' about once I saw bilfman's signature. Talk about the dream drivetrain! I'm a Tru-trac/Detroit Locker addict from square 1. Big axles? That,too. 4L80E coupled to the 205? Say what?? Oh,and then there's that little ole 454. Not too shabby

The further you spread your wheels the deeper your tires are going to dig into your fender when articulating with the wheels cranked. Keep that in mind, my fenders 'trimmed themselves' with 35's while I was wheeling through a cut block last November.

I have used spidertrax wheel spacers twice now with a lot of abuse and both sets are still fine. Very high quality parts.

Thanx for the shout out Special K. I do love my truck, I have been fortunate to have located all the sweet drivetrain goodies. The entire beast was built, painted and wrenched in my 28 x 32 shop. It means a lot.

I've always appreciated a well outfitted truck...all shapes,sizes,and purposes. Yours definitely is one. I also love what doesn't jump out and scream at you. It's those things only one on the know will notice. Built-in not built-on. Kind of like women. There are those who can look great made-up,nice jewelry,and dressed-up. Then,there are those who just look great.
