Q-jet Mpg
Would a q-jet improve my mpg. I have an edlebrock right now, with an almost stock 350.

The Q-jet gets great gas mileage if you keep your foot out of it!! Look at the size of those secondarys!! They are huge! Once they start to open you can watch the gas gauge go down.

I have heard the exact same thing about Holly carbs. I just bought an Edelbrock 1412 and a Holley 1160. I will let you know which one I like better.

When I had a Qjet on my 84 LWB, I got 22 MPG on a stock 305 V-8.

You better be damn good at carb rebuilding to mess with a Qjet!

I have a Q-jet on a stock 305 in my '84 Caprice and it will get 24 mpg. If you step on it, you can kiss that goodbye.

86Silverado.........don't buy a Holly.......I bought an Edelbrock because several people said Holly was hard to keep adjusted. I got only 1 1/2 years out of the Edelbrock before it went to hell...........bought another and after 6 months I can't keep it tuned and my mileage went from 21 MPG to 16..........I'm going to replace with a quad. Autozone has them for $99

Now you tell me. I have approximately 4 q-jets laying around. I am just to lazy to soak the damn things long enough and get in there with a toothbrush and whatnot to try and get them running right. I have actually re-built a couple and I do like them and have gotten the 20 or so mpg with my old one on the 305 which I still have on there. I got the edelbrock and holley to experiment with on my 67 to see which does better. I also am keeping the 2-jet just in case. I was getting exactly ten mpg with that setup on the 307. Of course I just switched to a 350 so it won't be much of a comparison to the old setup but I want to see what is the best I can do with the 350 in there.

Nothing wrong with a good experiment. Good luck with it but I am finished forever with anything made by edelbrock. Street talk here is that they use to produce a good product but no longer.
By the way ......I did not mention that Autozone has a $40 core charge on the rebuilt quad. It was interesting that when I asked the guy at Autozone what they had in a rebuilt for my 69 he wanted to know if I would sell him my old quad..........he's a carb. guy on the side. Good luck with it. |
