My 1960 Chevy Apache
Hey all. Fairly new to the website. First Post. Just wanted to share my find and my new project. I have a 1960 Chevy Apache fleetside longbed. All original with 40,000 miles. Hasn't been drove in over 30 years. The old man I got it from parked it in a field next to his house when the clutch quit working. Not sure on my plans yet. Still trying to get the motor running.

Re: My 1960 Chevy Apache
Wow! Talk about fully equipped, it even has the back of cab trim intact!
That piece and the side trim are probably worth as much as the rest of the truck! Nice truck, looking forward to whatever you decide to do with it. Welcome to the forum!

Re: My 1960 Chevy Apache
Definitely feel good about the purchase, Talked the guy down to $700 since I had to tow it out of the woods. Haha The only major rust is in the bottoms of the front fenders. The whole cab is completely rust free. Floor boards and rockers are really solid. A little bit of damage on the drivers side, but fixable. A little worried, Motor feels stuck. Put all new plugs and wires in. Changed the oil. Hoping for the best.

Re: My 1960 Chevy Apache
I'd suggest do a Google search on "free up a stuck engine". The are many recommendations on what to pour down the spark plug holes before trying to turn it over. I've seen Marvel Mystery Oil used frequently myself.
Also make sure the transmission is in neutral and moveable.. With a dead clutch the driveline could be preventing the engine from turning over. I had a 1950 Studebaker long ago, and the lining on the clutch plate stuck to the flywheel and pressure plate. It tore the lining off the clutch and the only way I could start the engine was by jacking the rear end up off the ground. Just another thing to consider.

Re: My 1960 Chevy Apache
Hi, good looking start for a project.
If you have the occasion to work on the heater, i noticed you have the deluxe heater with the cable into the front of the box. I lost my cable and no one that I have found sells that, the only cables available are for the newer heaters with the cable in the back, any way I need the length of the cable, eye to eye & the spiral sleeve. |
