14bff swap question
Ok, guys this one is going to be a little goofy so sorry. I found a guy who is about to scrap a 3/4 ton Suburban. It has a 14bff with 3.42 gears. I want to put this in my 3/4 truck. I have a 14 bolt ff rear out of a 1 ton truck sitting in my yard from another truck. That I'm not using. He's cool with the swap as long as we can rig up the 1 ton axle to the Suburban. Just so he can load it on his trailer. Can it be done??

Re: 14bff swap question
The spring perches are closer together on the 1-tons, so you'll need to cut them off and weld new ones on at the 1/2 and 3/4 ton spacing. Shock mounts may need relocated as well. Not a bolt in swap, but very do-able.

Re: 14bff swap question
yeah that's the reason I haven't put it under my truck yet. But since he wont be driving it. Just needs it to roll. So we can get it on the a trailer and up to the scrap yard. I was hoping I could cut the spring perches off and just bolt it in?

Re: 14bff swap question
I cant picture how you would do that. Anyway, you're in Maysville? I'm on Camp Lejeune. I'm in Maysville all the time, if you would like me to swing by and take a look some time. I've been looking for somewhere local to find some old square body chevy's. I like my newer Ford, but I miss my old truck.

Re: 14bff swap question
If it's going to the scrapper why not just weld the springs to the axle?

Re: 14bff swap question
Ratchet straps, chain & come a long. If its just to drag it up on a trailer, either would work.

Re: 14bff swap question
you don't need spring plates for this. just put the axle under the leafs in front of the pin and crank the u bolts tight. it will be fine done it a bunch of times. and if the spring hangers are far away enough that they r in the way just cut them off and bolt it on without them. then its off to the pancake maker
