Hood raises while driving
The hood on both of my Suburbans raise slightly (in the front part of the hood) when driven down the highway. It's noticeable because the front part of the hood becomes higher than the fender gap. Anyone else notice this? Is this normal or is there a fix?

Re: Hood raises while driving
See if you can pull the latch down and raise the side bumpers.

Re: Hood raises while driving
I've already adjusted the latch down as far as possible.

Re: Hood raises while driving
Its a normal thing for the two squares I've had. I could be wrong but I think its more common on 81-up. The hoods were weaker in the front center and allow them the outer edges to rise at highway speeds and flap like bird, lol. Both my trucks eventually cracked the metal on the very center of hood from the stress of flapping. In my opinion the front hood structure wasn't built heavy enough
So to answer your question.......Its not just you, lol

Considered the high speed warning. Mine starts going ape above about 140km/h

Re: Hood raises while driving
thats weird, never noticed the hood flapping on my 86. And I'm not one to miss details like a loose hood!

Re: Hood raises while driving
I thought that was a feature on this era truck.

Re: Hood raises while driving
Mine moves a little also. I've owned several of these trucks and this is the first one I've noticed it. I assumed I had something adjusted wrong when I put the hood on after paint. I replaces all of the little rubber stops and had the latch off. To tell the truth I don't remember any adjustment in the latch, but the rubber stops are adjustable.

Re: Hood raises while driving
I've got mine adjusted to a spot that's just right and the hood sits even and it still comes up. Gotta remember we got the aerodynamics of a brick so your front end bluntly forces a lot of air around. A lot of it comes in between the hood and grill panel and the airflow raises the hood.
A buddy of mine made a rubber strip that was like a t and sandwiched it in between the hood and grille every time he closed the hood. You could hardly tell it was there but man did it make a difference with hood flop. Check all your gaps and stuff too. |

Re: Hood raises while driving
I would be checking for cracks around the latch on the hood just to make sure. Is it a aftermarket hood by any chance maybe? If adjusted properly, it shouldn't do this, if you have adjusted the latch properly you also have to have tension on the bumpers as stated earlier or it will just rock in the middle.
