After being convinced by many people on here to do a LS swap, I changed my mind to building the SB up. Cant find any body in Houston to do the swap for a decent price. My theory right now is I will be able to get my truck restored quicker if I just build a motor on the side. If I buy a new block, build it all up to where it has 0 miles, should I stick with a 350 or go bigger? It would be a daily driver to high school and then stored while I go to college. Thanks!

You could go bigger but where your still in high school, you could build a HOT little 350 pretty cheaply.

Build a 350. Anything bigger, and your getting into deep pocket time.

A 400 while nice has steam hole issues, and some don't like them. Plus they are a bit harder to find these days.

You can buy a rotating assembly for a 350 block for about $800 or so, and get 383 cubic inches.

Don't waste your money on a 0 mile block. Your in HS, and have better things to waste the extra money on. You can grab a full Vortec 350 in my area for $300 for the pick a parts. Grab a LT1 cam, and drop it in the Vortec before you leave. Rebuild the package with 9-1 compression, add the bolt ons, and you'll be close to 350HP 425TQ. If your good at scrounging CL you can get bolt-on's cheap, and you'll see quite a few in pick a part too. You could build the motor above for Less then $2500 in most case's, and if luck less then $2000.

Stick with a 350 to keep costs down. You could always just freshen up an already running 350. Throw a cam, intake, decent carb (don't over carb it!) and some headers and you'll have a strong runner.

Chevy3+3, I was planning on doing that, but after talking to a few of my dad's friends they suggested I didn't do a top end build because later down the road the bottom end is go. I rather build a whole motor since I am going to have this truck for many years.
