Frame Off: How can i get the body off?
With my 70 Panel we think about a frame-off...
But we have some problems..... 1: How easy is it to get the body back on the Frame? 2: the wooden panels in the back: are they over or under the body? How we can replace them? Anybody has a pic documentary about that? 3: Size....I have seen that some body parrts are under, some over the wood. The small and easy point is that the thickness of our wood what i can buy in Germany is in mm, but the us is inches...What if i use wood that is a little thicker or thinner? Will the old parts fit or do i need to import US Wood? |

First off welcome to the board! I can't really help on the body removal/replacement but here are some threads on the wood floors. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=548096 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=75629 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=334704 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ght=wood+floor On the panel trucks the wood is actually 2 pieces of solid plywood with the metal strips bolted to it instead of individual planks. I think the Suburban floors are pretty much the same type of installation, just shorter than the panel trucks. LockDoc

Does a panel truck have a solid plywood panel or individual boards? On the Suburban, the floor is plywood and sandwiched between the body and crossmembers. They are then bolted to the frame.
Yep, 2 pieces of plywood. The strips just make it look like individual boards. The only function of the strips is to make it easier to slide stuff in and out.... LockDoc

Re: Frame Off: How can i get the body off?
I lured 10 of my friends over with beer one day and we lifted my Panel body onto a rack I had built:
I am going to build a overhead crane to put it back on with. I need one anyway, not for just this. I have almost all of the parts I need to build this, and I will as soon as I am ready to put it back on. I want to change my bed wood eventually, too, but the more I look at it, the body must be back on in order to do this. Good luck with your project!
