what your driveshaft shouldnt do.

My kid was on his way too work the other day in his 67 and his driveshaft quit.

its hard too read the left over schrapnel but it looks like either it was slightly kissin the ta c-member witch would basicly cut it in half.
or the rear u joint let go.

the shaft hit the bed wood and split two of the oak boards and slightly bent a strip.

the other half of the shaft was mia.

funny thing is we tried putting my shaft(58") in his truck and it is 2" too short his was 60"

Wow. Never seen a shaft split like.that before. Maybe the u joint broke, and the free spinning shaft hit the crossmember shearing it in 2

At least no one was hurt. Could have became a missile out from under the truck.

Yeah when that broke it scared the living crap outta me, thought i blew a piston the way it sounded. but when i pulled off the side of the road i noticed i could not go anywhere so i thought the tranny was toast, looked under and i only saw my u joint in the rear. I was like where is the rest of my driveshaft? But it could have been ten times worse. Just gotta find another driveshaft but it wont be for a while since i gotta save some bones for my wedding.

Back in the early 80's I had a 70 long bed with a tunnel rammed 454 and a auto . It kept tearing up carrier bearings so I had a one piece drive shaft made for it and opened up the hole in the cross member for more clearance . Coming home from work one day a week after the install I jumped on it hard and when I shifted into second gear the yoke on the rearend broke then the spinning drive shaft cut itself in half . Lucky for me the shop still had the measurements of the new shaft and I upgraded to a larger yoke.

I had one come loose at the rear u-joint when I first started driving(bolts came loose, not snapping it). Luckly I was at slow speeds and almost at my destination. Coasted in and parked it in the dirt.

Of course, dad swore up n down I was hot rodding it tell he noticed missing bolts.

Best thing of yours and mine as Blazer mentioned. Nobody was hurt.

Yea could be worse. My uncle and dad had an olds with a 350 rocket they stomped on it one day dropped the drive shaft in the front right behind the trans. Dug into some pavement and pitched the car up and sideways.
