Tires cracking

My Jimmy came with tires, but I'm not sure they are good for driving. I was hoping to keep the tires on and pretty much burn them off, and invest in new tires after the engine and transmission get figured out.

There is some cracking between the treads and very little on the sidewall. I can't find a date on the tires, but I think they are 17 or 18 years old.

What do you guys think? don't drive on them? use them for a month or two? just keep them?

I've got some old tires as well. Most of the current research says 6 to 10 years if they are properly maintained. There is no way to detect when the tire will come apart. I had a valve stem fixed last week and they told me the date code read 12 years old. They are my moving around while rebuilding tire, so they won't see the road. I did a little research and quickly found fatalities related to old tires coming apart. I'd replace them.

Jeff is correct. Those tires should not be used on the street.

This was discussed in the tool forum a couple of years back.

Good to know, they will be replaced. I want to get bigger tires anyway and may consider killing the tires if you know what I mean.
