What rear ends will fit a 72

I put a 700r4 in my 72 C10. It has 3:08 gears in the rear end. Looking to change it to 3:73. What year truck rear ends are the same as a 72 with coil springs?

The 67 through early 70 rear ends will fit, but they are a little narrower and are 6 lug. They do make 5 lug axles that can be swapped in. You can also use later model truck rear ends that have 5 lug patterns, but if you have coil springs you would have to weld perches on.

You will have to get a different carrier too, and while your doing it might as well go posi, right?. With parts and labor it starts creeping up towards a grand. A decent used rear end can be had much cheaper.

I'm in the same boat right now, I'm looking for a 3.73 rear end.

I was looking online myself tonight and saw that they make 3 series 3.73's. I never knew that, that is a great option.
