Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Had a pretty good weekend, got about 95% of everything on the suspension mocked up and ready. Still have to set the transmisson crossmember and weld the rear bag mounts and some tabs for the brake lines. Till have to trim the tie rod ends.getting real close. Man I'm excited now.😃

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Drilled the holes and set the trans mount last eve. Put the front wheels and tires on and put it on rollers for the time being till I can get the Frame set at 5" for ride hight. Then I'll weld the rear mounts and some brake line tabs and mockup the sensors for the air ride. Won't get much done till next week sometime.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Haven't gotten much done, went to a truck show near home and visited family. So today I made some mods to the porterbuilt trans crossmember to accept 3" exhuast. Also got the tie rods cut and installed and brake line tabs welded front and rear.
Waiting to hear from Nate about the panhard bar kicking the rear over to far when layd out. Till I get that worked out I'm not welding the bag brackets on the rear. Also got the new 3" slip joint 2 piece driveshaft with urethane center mount ordered. Should be here this week. Was going to use the one I bought but the slip joint had a cracked end I didn't see when I got it. So I'll use it for parts in the future. |

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Recieved the new driveshaft today and man is it nice. The 2" spacer block I was planing on wasn't enough. So I called my neighbor at jist unlimited and see if he could give me a hand. We cut down an aluminum chunk to 2x3 1/4 X11 1/2". Nice to great friends and neighbors with machine shops. I'll drill the holes for it tomorrow on the drill press.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Nice mod on the trans member. Mine is on the way along with bag stuff. I'll probably do the same. What diameter round stock did you weld in there?

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
I used a 4" tube 3/16 wall, was the same as the round bar on the trans. Allowed for up to 3" exhaust with room not to scorch the paint.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
It's been a little bit since I've had a chance to work on the truck.got the cab set back on the frame, trimmed and fitted the fenders and got those ready to rework.i wasn't impressed by the fit of the aftermarket header panel so I used one from the daily and I'll blast it and get it ready for work.mocked up the hood with the new gas assist strut hood hinges from porterbuilt, also recieved the rear notch cover with redesigned mount for panard bar. I also welded the high hump firewall section in and trimmed the floor, ready to drill the rear holes and nutcert the floor for a bolt in like factory.
In the next couple weeks I'll blow it all apart and send everything needed out to be powdercoated.its slowing down a bit on progress, time and energy to work on it is hard to come by. |

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
It's been a couple weeks but this past Monday I took of to spend some time with my son while he's out of school.. So after tearing the frame and all suspension down we took the parts to get powdercoated. Had to extend some arms on the rotisserie. Now I was able to finish welding the rockers in and start on the cab corners. Well after 5 hours and 5 diffrent section cuts and welding and grinding and grinding and welding. Have only one more cab corner left, hop to do that this week.then weld up all the holes in the firewall.
