69 GMC 3 speed

is it normal for two bolts on the tranny to be going into the bell housing (Top) and two bolts coming out of the bell housing(Bottom)? and if so is there any way to get the tranny out to do the clutch without removing the bell housing?

The answer to both of your questions is YES. It takes a special item to be able to do the job. That item is KNOW HOW

The old man is right. This old man will ad a little to it. Pull the trans. & TO brg. Remove the clutch bolts turning the flywheel as you go. You can remove the clutch by lowering it down through the opening. You probably will have to push the disc up in the housing & lower the pressure plate first.

An off set box wrench will usually work. You may have to bend one to get in there. It also helps to back out the ball a little that the fork rides on. It will give some more clearance when remove the clutch from the housing.
