Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
Looking for some opinions since I'm on the fence about this one. Its only $100 but I'm thinking its probably not worth the effort to get this truck, what do you guys think?
the lowlights: -will be a long day of hard work to get dug out and clean off whats on/in it. -no usable body panels -2000 lbs of sand/gravel on the bed -Sunk up to axles in dirt -trees around it will need to be cut - an hour from home the highlights: -292 can still be turned by hand -power steering (I could use on my K20?) - maybe some useable roof marker light lenses Sorry for only 1 pic but the other pics just show a junky truck not much to see at all.

Re: Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
that complete 292 setup sounds like its worth the work and surly theres gotta be more saveable parts on it.
sounds like a take what you want from it and flip it as a parts truck and/or scrap. you know you just cant let it sit there.....

Re: Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
Will they let you pull the parts you want and leave the rest? The power steering brackets are worth $300, they are very hard to find. I am sure you can find other goodies too.

Re: Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
Always worth the effort to save something off one of the "New Breed Trucks." Like 72SWB4X4 says, P/S brackets for the 292 are very rare. I'm partial to West Coast Jr mirrors, too.

Re: Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
Rent a pair of shovel holders for the day to dig things out and cut some firewood. Then bring it on home.
If you are still thinking about a diesel Longhorn that is going to be the heaviest factory, period frame you can start with. C20 127"- 6.11" section height, 2.46" flange width, 0.194" thick, 3.71 section modulus C20/30 133" (Longhorns)- 7.20" section height, 2.77" flange width, 0.194" thick, 5.05 section modulus C30 157"- 8.18" section height, 2.97" flange width, 0.224" thick, 7.29 section modulus K10 127" K20 127"- 6.09" section height, 2.75" flange width, 0.186" thick, 3.48 section modulus BTW Those are DG5 west coast sr mirrors, the big ones.

Give him the $100 and take what you can off of it.

Hi Eric, I've been busy cleaning up around here parting out trucks. Also have to pick up another cummins parts truck today. Mainly bought it for the western 8 foot plow I will be relisting the extra engine to recoup some investment.

Here is a link for you to explore, everything back to 1999 but much of it is in PDF manual format. Lot of factory plow information too! https://www.gmupfitter.com/pages/body-builder-manuals Blazerman has a C30 grain truck they chopped to 145" during the inital build you might want to look at.

Re: Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
Hook it up and drag it home. If not for yourself,, think of others. It may have some parts someone out there has been searching for. I was two hours loading one up last week, but it was time well spent.

Re: Worth dragging parts truck out of the weeds?
Tell them you'll take it,but the labor involved is all the truck is worth. You'll do them the service of removing the truck (obviously something this person has been avoiding...forever!) and take the truck as payment. I think that's their best deal.
