Stepside fender tanks. Ideas and thoughts.
So a few nights ago I was sitting in my truck listening to the CB and stereo like I do every night and my roommate had a brilliant idea: take the upper half of the rear stepside fender and run down the back a few inches in from the outter edge of the Wheel well and make either one of those poly tanks formed to this shape or make a steel tank to match the inner contour of the fender. The cap would sit at the front like the old ford roadster at the back of the fender. Just an idea I've been tossing around in my head. I heard an old rumor this was an option but rarely made. Thought and ideas much encouraged.

Re: Stepside fender tanks. Ideas and thoughts.
sounds like a good use of space but I can see a few problems.
1st. as said above that will put a bit of weight high in the truck and on one side. Seems to me it would make the truck sway a bit. 2nd. you would have to "armor" the bottom of the tank more so than normal. anything that the tires run over would be flung right at the tank giving rise to the possibility of a puncture. 3rd. that would leave very little protection in case of an accident. With a tank underneath you are protected by the frame rails. With it in the cab you have the trucks structure to protect it. but with it in the wheel well there is no protection other than sheet-metal. |

True. I have given that thought about it. Going back to the days of the pinto. I'm just trying to utilize the truck and it's space. Like I said tossing ideas around.

I have saddle tanks under my fleetside, i don't normally fill them, keep a couple gallons in them for reserve, just cool to have. I know you can crush them in an accident, but i run them anyways.
