Bigru's 65 Project "Bone"

Hey everyone,

I'm a little late but I figured I should start a build thread so here you go.

First I would like to Thank all the guys who have taken the time to help me, guide me and answer questions. I can't wait to come to the upcoming 2014 Git-Down sponsored by Dino..

I live in Houston and I join the forum March 2013 to get motivated to get my 83 square back together then something happen, lol. The 60-66's caught my eye and I was hooked. Then the search began ebay, craigslist etc. I found out Goodguys Spring Lone Star Nationals was coming later the same month so I started planning. I grab my youngest son and we took off, the show started at 8am and was at the gate at 7:50am watching the beautiful cars and trucks come in. I think around 10am I was loaded and on my way back to Houston with my new toy.

Plans when I bought it was to do upgrades such as brakes, wiring harness and get the 292 running as well as install the new stuff that came with the truck.

Get busy, Burnout is around the corner. That'll be a good event to roll your truck out. You have a great start!!

Re: Bigru's 65 Project "Bone"

Ok right after I got it home I started my build plan which was to keep it simple. Get it running then do a major clean up under the hood, basically everything under the hood is new or rebuilt except the motor and trans (700/4r). Add a static drop and install the goodies that came with the truck. I also placed an order with CPP, Rotors, 2.5 spindles, springs, brake booster, M/C and 4" drop springs for the back. Plus I ordered Stovebolt's exhaust headers.

After the tear down begin I decided to powder coat everything I could under the hood for a nice appearance.

Re: Bigru's 65 Project "Bone"

Btw I ran into a couple of problems, CPP sent 2 left side spindles so I had to wait for the right side to show up and after installing the disk up front the stock wheels didn't fit. I also sent the hood to the paint shop.

One thing I found out about buying nice things is you don't see everything until you get it home and start digging a little. My cab is crap, lots of rust around the firewall & floors and it will need some major surgery to get it right. Looks like it's been leaking for a while . Anyway I started looking for a BBW cab, rust free of course. I did get all the goodies installed like bed wood, Hood, gas tank, brake lines, etc. Plus she's running!!! My first ride was Beautiful!!! Nothing but teeth was showing.

Re: Bigru's 65 Project "Bone"

Bought another cab, had it shipped from Arizona. I was excited, I sent it off to get blasted and when it got back I was like WTF!!!!! Basically I was pissed. It pretty much have the same problems floors and rockers are rusted except the firewall and area around the front window is good. Sounds like it's time to be self taught at welding. It's youtube time!

Re: Bigru's 65 Project "Bone"

Having it all nice and clean will help a lot with the metal work. Welding is the easy part spend a lot of time fitting the panels.. Nice fitment makes it go a lot faster.
