Thanks Randy and Dubie. That's good to hear. Over the Christmas holidays I'm going to try and get it wired up, then the wife will never see me. LOL!

WOW! Awesome job Jim. Attached is a pic of my back yard where I plan to build my 30X60 ft."Garagasaurus". I really lucked out when I found this old house.(Built in 1930) It was here before the land was subdivided into 50X150 ft. lots and the house straddles the split line by 10 ft. so it sold as one lot 100X150 ft. All I have to do is refinance to get the funds and permits. I'll post more pics once the slab is in. Thanks for the inspiration.

Good job..............slabs and driveways don't matter to most inspectors..........mine will be blacktop...don't need permits, or inspections.....
What is the siding you used? Looks like t-111 but never saw any that looked like plywood.....

Yep it's 5/8" T-111. Going to paint it white w/ hunter green trim to match the house. Got it all inspected over the Christmas Holidays. Getting all the electrical together. I'm going to run 80 Amps. (220 w/ 40 amp breakers) . Have about a dozen 15 amp circuits, and 2 stand alone 20 amp circuits (welder and compressor) for now. Lighting will be 16 4' bulbs. Plus a light over the garage door, flood light on the back and a light near the 32" door switched from inside the house.

Truck 69 have not gotten that far yet. Will have it insulated and heated by next winter. Probably go with natural gas since that's what's in the house. Though my brother has a wood stove he wants to get rid of. I do like wood.

Hey Jim, Just a suggestion on the inside finish. You might consider the T-111 sheeting as an alternative to sheetrock for several good reasons. 1. Never having to hunt for studs to hang stuff on. 2. It's certainly more durable than sheetrock. 3. Noise control is better as well, if that might be an issue.
I insulated and skinned the inside of a 2 car garage with T-111 at another house and it sure made it easy to mount things on the wall as well as keeping the noise level contained. When I do it again I'll use screws instead of nails so I can easily make any changes that might come up at a later date. Of course drywall is less expensive but if the budget allows, T-111 sure works and looks better. Just my $0.02 |

Fishwacker, I'll keep that in mind, got some things to do on the house first (2nd bath, laundry room and 4th bedroom). Probably be later summer/early fall for the garage. But I will have power by the end of this month, I went and bought all my electrical stuff today!

Jim, I've gotten a few quotes on the Refi. Looks like I'll be getting the money I'll need to build my "Garagasaurus" starting this spring. Once I have the money in hand I'll be able to start the permit process which shouldn't be too difficult. A guy I work with who lives only 2 miles from me built a huge one 2 years ago and he said it's mostly a formality to get your money, but it does keep people from building substandard shacks out of pallet wood. LOL
Keep the updates coming 'cause they sure inspire the rest of us who can only dream until it happens for us. Thanks, and good luck with your other projects. |
