Hard to find parts

I'm fighting with my 83 trying to replace manual window regulators and seals.
I can't get the regulator out of the door through the slot the window goes, but it looks like it'll fit through the square hole where the rod runs from the door handle to the latch mechanism.
Here's my issue, I'm afraid if I work the clip that holds that rod to the latch mechanism, it's going to be boofed and I have no clue where to find a replacement clip. And it needs that clip to keep the rod in place. And the rod blocks me from getting the regulator out.
Will need two of them as I need to also do the passenger door.

They are a pain, but I just pulled one of mine and if you're careful it shouldn't break but you don't want it to drop into a black hole either. It has a small tab to keep it from sliding, so you have to pry it up then slide it back. Or you can unhook the other easier inside handle side and unbolt the latch to see if you can move it out of the way. I know I unbolted my latch but can't remember if it helped.

I unbolted the latch, but it won't move far enough to allow me to remove the rod from it.

Re: Hard to find parts

It is tricky, I used a thin long screwdriver to pry the clip up, then another to push it back. Then you can pop the rod out. Once the clip is slid back you don't have to hold it back, it will stay and it won't fall off because the hole is oval so the rod keeps it there. But once you pop out the rod there is the possibility that it could fall off.

Re: Hard to find parts

Thanks, Sean ...
I grabbed my inspection mirror and flashlight and saw the slot.
Thin and medium length screwdriver and tiny ball pein and it's inching its way off.
Well, not inching, maybe millimetering is the correct word, I'm only letting it move a tiny bit at a time.

Re: Hard to find parts

I also noticed a gap about 2 inches long between the lower part of the window run channel, and the section above it.
The lower run channel was only held in with one bolt, there is a hole to access the second bolt down lower, but nothing there to fasten it to.
The bolt is in the channel still, but doesn't go to anything else.
Am I missing a part ?

I didn't mess with that part, so I'm not sure but I would think it should be fastened somewhere.

Re: Hard to find parts

There's a metal clip (arrow points to it) and there's no place in my door for that clip to go into.
There are two spots, the one towards the rear takes the round pin.
If I put the metal clip in the slot forward from the round pin one, the seal will sag down a couple inches.
That won't work.

Re: Hard to find parts

Got the driver's door back together.
The seals are sure nice.
And a working new regulator.
Only problem is the rear lower channel is obviously wrong somehow and needs support at a lower point, just the top bolt to secure it does not allow for the window to roll all the way up properly, I roll it up part ways, then it wants to go outside the truck, so I pull the glass in with the other hand to guide it up into the vent window channel for the glass.
At least it's back together and works.

Re: Hard to find parts

Maybe the passenger side will be right and you can see where it's supposed to bolt.
