Getting Water Through Side Vents...

Just tightening up my cab and noticed I get water through both side floor vents when the truck is parked and it rains. I dont think I really need those vents once I add AC. What would you do? Whats the best way to seal them? Weld or is just make a plate and silicon it on?

The water is coming from somewhere above those vents. Plugging up, or putting a plate over those vents won't solve the possible bigger issue.
Try and trace back how the water is getting in there.

May be holes in the outer box...common rust place and water will blow in

Just move to California and you will not have to worry about rain getting into your cab.

Sad and true, when I read the title of the post I was like...how does water get in there? But then I reminded myself that it does rain in other states.

Re: Getting Water Through Side Vents...

Right above the hole for the side vent there is a splash guard, gutter thingy. If that's rusted it'll allow water into the side vents.

I ended up replacing the cowl on my 60 Apache and replaced the splash guard thingys too because they had quite a bit of rust where they were spot welded to the cab..

It's a good chance you're correct.
.
Mine was rusted out too.
What did you use to for a new splash guard thingy?

I dug into it yesterday.
There's about forty spot welds.
I wasn't looking forward to drilling all them out.
It went a lot easier than I expected.

Here are a few pics:

Fits good.
I'll probably try and get it cleaned up and tacked in tomorrow.

I just bent up a new piece of sheet metal and welded it into place.

Re: Getting Water Through Side Vents...

im afraid im going to be doing the same thing......those vent holes will make nice speaker mounts after building a sealed cover.

Re: Getting Water Through Side Vents...

I just made some plates and covered them. I used sealant around the edge. I thought about putting speakers in there but worried about water getting in.

Re: Getting Water Through Side Vents...

If you check out my burban build, you will see I am, doing the same thing now.

But since I will be going vintage air (which the vent gets a cover plate) I will be fabbing the whole inner structure out of a solid piece, eliminating the kick panel vent.

Drivers side as well.
