Bought a 70' C/10 - Introduction and questions.

Well, here's my pickup. It's a 283/4 speed pickup, the 283 is out of something earlier but I haven't looked up numbers because it's getting yanked, though it does run good. The kid I bought it from claimed it hadn't ran in 15 years and the motor was shot. I put in an HEI, blew out the gas lines, hooked up a battery, plugs, fresh gas and it fired right up. Alternator isn't charging though, so I may have to look into doing that conversion, if anyone has any insight. All in all, I paid $600 for it with a title.

My questions mainly concern a 5.3/NV4500 swap. Has anyone else done a similar swap? The 5.3 is out of a 2000 Silverado, and the NV4500 is from a 94 Sierra 6.5 diesel. Wondering what adapters, flywheel, starter etc I need to use, and if it will bolt to the original transfer case? Will I have to cut my driveshaft at all? How much further back will it sit, if that can be told.

Thanks again.

Welcome to THE Board, looks like you got a good deal on a K-10! I can't help you with the 5.3/NV4500 swap, there may be some threads about it on here if you search for them. Yesterday there was a thread going on the internally regulated alternator swap, It's a pretty easy swap and there was a wiring diagram posted on the thread.

You are aware that you will need to install a whole new front crossmember and most likely a small suspension lift in order to fit the 5.3 right?

Best to slip over to the LSx swap board in the engine forum and start searching for other similar combos. I'm sure advance adapters makes a piece to mate your trans and transfer case. But I imagine your driveline will need some modification.
