Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

well no new pictures but I will get some here this weekend.....I was to busy drying my tears that were all over my garage floor today. here I thought I got all my bad karma out of the way. all I had to do is put the bed on the frame and I thought I was heading around 3rd base heading for home but boy was I wrong. so I went out to the garage spun my truck around moved the bed out to the door and got the cherry picker ready, saw that my neighbor was out cutting the grass and thought I would get everything ready then go get him and we would get the bed on the frame. well I got long eye hooks and ran through the bed bolt holes in the floor and got my straps hooked up and to the right length so the bed would lift level..........and then I start jacking it up and everything is going well its picking level and I just get it high enough to roll the truck underneath it. I was standing on the back of the cherry picker so it wouldn't bounce and I step off it and just went to walk beside it to go get my neighbor and the strap poped off the hook and the bed crashed to the concrete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My heart sank.....my stomach hurt and if I didn't have to go to work I think I would of started chugging beer, well my neighbor heard the crash and came walking over and all I could think of is that the whole lower bed side were caved in underneath. Now my neighbor is a 65 year old retired state cop who is yelling at me like I'm his son but then he stops and says I think you just scratched the paint a little. so I walk around and look and It didn't look bad at all but it did just miss the wall and a 350 motor that was sitting there. we slid the cart back under and hooked it up again this time I used some duct tape so there was no way the straps could slip off and we got the bed on, it did put a small dent in the back corner and scratched the paint way at the bottom but if you don't know its there you cant see it (so please don't tell anybody about it) But I am positive that good luck is coming my way and thing are about to start working in my favor, but if they don't I will let you guys know so you can start buying stock in Miller Lite cause I am about to start drinking a lot more....

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

well I have been pretty busy but here are some pics and some details. The blue and white gauges came out pretty good and the center console looks good too. But I am really happy with the 67-68 trim, and I will show how I did it.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

ok for anyone wanting to add 67-68 molding don't fear it is pretty easy to do and here are some good step to follow. First off if you are doing a two tone paint job make sure your upper color goes at leased 1/2 inch below body line but you could go 3/4 and that's good too. Now here is the way I did mine....I'm sure there are other ways but I didn't have any problems, and the measurements I use might not be the same as the ones you will use since I don't know if all kits are the same. And I got my kit from Luttys chevy they are located just north of Pittsburgh PA and I was very happy with the kit and the looks and they had the best price around which was a plus also.

First thing I did was but the molding on around the wheel wells just using two screws to hold it in place, And extra set hands works a lot better for this part which I didn't have so it can be done by yourself. Start by putting molding up and trying to line horizontal lines of molding up with body.......do this front and back.

now after wheel well molding are in place I ran 1/4" vinyl tape fro top of molding fron to back, this will give you a straight line to work with. If you body line isn't 100% straight it will be ok cause once the molding is on straight it kinda hides body lines, and this is why you should paint your upper body cover lower past line cause the molding sits just below body line.

now that you have a straight line measure your molding and clips, I had two different clips one was bolt style and the other was a push in. I got 18 bolt style and 14 push in type, I used the bolt type front and back of front wheel well, door, front bed and rear bed, I used 1 for cab corner and the rear wheel well is held by front and back moldings. The push in type I used two on the door in the middle, one on the cab corner near back, 3 on front bed molding and one centered on rear bed molding. Now measure your molding vertically.... mine was 2 1/4" and the clips were centered at 1 1/8" ( picture was on an angle so it doesn't look centered but it was) now I measures the clips....bolt and push in type to see what drill bits I need push in were 3/8 and bolt I don't remember what it was but I did use 1/8 bit to predrill all holes.

now here is the tricky part..........you don't want you clips the ones closest to the ends to be to close to the ends cause you will drill through the door into the door jambs, so you want to stay in about 5" from front of door and about 4 from rear of door, the front bed you need about 4" from front but the other end near wheel well I kept mine as close to end as I could and did the opposite on rear molding.....close on front and about 5" from rear....the rear bolt was the hardest to get nut on. Now I am going to jump ahead just for a second........after you get molding on you will have to take off front wheel well back off and drill your holes, there is a brace that runs vertical up rear of fender along door line so you need to make sure you miss that brace I think you want to stay about 7" from rear of fender......ok take your molding and put your bolt style clips near the ends and add the pushin style try to space them out and then measure from front of molding and write down measurements of clips....then measured door and bed and marked tape for each clip, then measured down 1 1/8" at each dash and drilled my holes. if you your holes are a little off front to back the clips can be moved to line up just try to get your vertical as close as possible. now the rear bed molding I didn't have any tape I just eyed it up and the front wheel molding I just put a small piece of tape on once it was held by screws. once you have it all bolted up finish screwing your wheel well moldings and your done.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

Got the sub box done and the amp rack built and all installed, just got to put in the pass side seat and get her all shined up and polish my wheels for frenchblue and I will be ready to roll. Didn't get carried away with the stereo system just a alpine deck 6.5 alpine mids with tweeters under dash in stock speaker location, and a 12" JL w3 in center console with JL 300 watt amp.

Hi Oldschool-

Hey I've never been able to get the big amp alternator to fit the serpentine bracket. Is that a special bracket? I have seen police cars with the big alt but they had adaptors.

I had to round out one of the holes for it to fit.

Re: another Oldschool sneak peek

its not for another toy.................I am getting married in 6 weeks, and me and the old lady have been together for almost 9 years so I am paying for the wedding myself. Her parents helped us out a lot when we bought our house 7 years ago and I didn't think it was right to make them pay for it. But heres the other thing......I found a house to buy....its not on the market yet and I think I can grab it cheaper if I can get it before it does. My house is in town on a lot 50' by 150' the house is 100 years old in good shape I did a lot of work but we need more room. So this other house has about 1.5 acres and two 2car garages and a unfinished basement, now it needs a little work it was built in the 70's and was never updated except for the kitchen and bath they were redone. Now if my house would sell in a month or two I would be fine but if it sits on the market for six months or so and those months would be over the holidays things would get very tight for me. So that's why I am going to sell it, I can always build a new truck and I would have twice the space in the new place.
