Tall Deck Versus STD Deck 427

Whats your guys opinion between the std deck and the tall deck 427 chevy? Has anyone used 1 in our 67-72 trucks? How much higher priced is it to build the tall deck? Any pics ?

Re: Tall Deck Versus STD Deck 427

The 427 truck tall deck is a truck motor and I don't mean that it was meant for the 3/4 ton crowd or the 1 ton set. it is a heavy duty dump truck 5500 trailer truck type big-rig gas motor type thing that is not meant to be revved up very high and the torque is meant to get a load moving. The aftermarket has never really moved on the tall version of this chevy for that reason and others. Now lots of racers are smart in taking the blocks and doing machine work on them and making bigger motors out of them like 555's are pretty common with the right crank rod combo. If you have a tall deck I would sell the crank to someone with a 396 or a 427 cause we love the steel cranks that they have in them because of the nature of the running that they do and so forth. also they make a good crank to start a bottom end of a 396 or 427 project and then buy a crank kit for that block to make some big inches for a good engine that would be a great way to go.
