I was just looking for constructive advice...
I was most certainly NOT "begging for money", as some have characterized my last post. These people clearly didn't take the time to actually understand it before they decided to trash it. Not allowing me to clarify in response to them is patently unfair. Thanks. I won't bother you guys anymore.

Re: I was just looking for constructive advice...
John, as much as you would like others to help you financially to restore your truck and then say you are not begging for money is contradicting when your website/blog says things like
" I knew I couldn't just say "Hey everybody, here's my truck! Please give me money to restore it," " It sends a mixed message and a lot of us, maybe including you, donate a ton of our hard earned cash that we don't spend on our trucks to charities to keep people alive , not trucks alive. I wish you the best in getting it restored and on the road.

Re: I was just looking for constructive advice...
Thanks, newfisher. I was referring specifically to my post here. Are you familiar with Kickstarter? People use it to raise money for all kinds of projects. THAT'S where I hope to eventually raise my money. And the ONLY reason I'm trying it is because I couldn't believe some guy actually DID use it to raise more than $50,000 to make potato salad. I figured if there were enough people out there willing to shell out money to put such a nonsensical project over the top, there must be enough to back my project.
I posted about it here because I thought people would be able to relate to the subject matter and perhaps offer some advice about how I might improve the presentation. I understand that most people who hang out on these boards aren't made of money, but most of them do have a lot more experience in the restoration game than I do. And I certainly understand that there are more important things for which money is needed. Just a few days ago I did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge AND donated money to the cause that I could have very easily put toward my truck, especially since I'm just a few hundred bucks away from finally driving it after 30 years of just dreaming about it. Sorry for the confusion. |

Your original thread has been closed so I'd consider the matter finished. Fund raising needs to be authorized by Site Admin. This thread, your "explanation" indirectly intentionally or not is a solicitation for donations.
