Radiator overflow / recovery tank
I was wondering what everyone is using for a coolant overflow tank. I am looking for a recovery tank (thinking off a late model truck) that will look and fit nice and will put coolant back in radiator when it cools.
Thoughts? |

Re: Radiator overflow / recovery tank
There are a lot of really nice polished stainless ones made in the USA that can be had for cheap. I actually bought two, one to run methanol in and one for an overflow.

I bought one from Autozone. It was like 10 bucks, and works great

Re: Radiator overflow / recovery tank
I was just looking for something simple. Doesn't have to look like a time capsule in my old farm truck. I have an OEM overflow now. I'm replacing my shroud and radiator hoses and purging system and what not and felt like I should upgrade to a recovery tank versus just an overflow catch can.
I picked up a mid 90's Silverado washer tank with pump and plan to put it above the driver's side inner fender well. Was thinking I would get a recovery tank and put it over the driver's side head lamp. |

Re: Radiator overflow / recovery tank
There have been several threads on these the last year or so. Search the forum for "overflow tank" or "expansion tank". One of the most innovative I've seen posted is to mount another windshield washer tank on the right fender and attach a hose from the radiator to the washer tank top fitting.
Here's a couple threads. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=476075 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=546610 |

Re: Radiator overflow / recovery tank
I grabbed one at the boneyard out of a V8 powered G-body, Olds I think. Fits on the fender okay, I made a quick sheetmetal bracket for it and am going to make something more permanent in the future (I keep saying that but it's been on there almost 3 years now!). If you want to keep the radiator all the way filled up, you need a large volume tank!
I used the radiator cap from a V8 fullsize, roadmaster wagon I believe, early 90's. Fits perfect.

Re: Radiator overflow / recovery tank
Dang, bought one out of a Monte Carlo and it doesn't have the notch in the corner so the hood hinge hits it when mounted in a normal position! Gonna go back to the salvage and look for one with that notch.

Recycle yard find many, many years ago. I think it was a 90's model Chevy but not sure.
