Brake drum wont come off.

I got one rear drum off of my 64. It took a half hour of beating it tho. The other one is stuck. The shoes are backed off. Could I heat the drum near the axil with a small propane torch and loosen it up?

PB Blaster or any creeping lube around axle hub. Deadblow.

I backed the shoes off. The hole is in the drum.

I used PB Blaster. What do you mean deadblow. Should I hit the drum, or the axle?

Re: Brake drum wont come off.

chances are that if its not comming off the drum is messed up and has a lip and the shoes are holding on the lip so crack it and it will come off

Re: Brake drum wont come off.

if it is stuck on the axle lube it and hit it with a like your trying to put it on you know on the face of the drum all the way around the face but dont hit your studs should make it move and once it moves the lube will seep in the it should come off

Re: Brake drum wont come off.

a 3lb steel hammer with a couple blows on the outward rim (not by the backing plate) of the drum will spring it

Re: Brake drum wont come off.

I got one drum off, but it did not want to go back on. The big hole that goes over the axle was to small, so I took a round file and went around the hole in the drum. I went in a circular rotation just enough to get it to go on. The drums are cheap ones. I believe that is why they don't want to come off. There was no rust around the area. I will tackle the other on later.
