Power steering compatibility

From what I've found, the original steering linkage that connects the pwr steering pump to the steering column is a component that is no longer available. Updated units are available. But I'm wondering if I can't visit the local salvage yard and get a linkage from a newer chevy truck? Maybe even pwr steering pump and all?

just need to knock off all the welded nuts of the 85 column and trim the collar below the shifter to clear the dash cut off like 3 or 4 inches of it cut the plug off for the wires splice your old plug on easyer then it sounds colors of the wires are the same the plug end are just different bolt it up and you have what i have above
