Porterbuilt Dropmember On a Longbed
I'm trying to find out if a Porterbuilt rear dropmember will fit a longbed 71 C10with a 2 piece drive shaft?? and I cant get a response from them directly. It apprears everything is the same as the short bed but Id like to confirm the fitment if I can. It's also currently running a leaf spring suspension so I assmume a new set of spring perch's would be needed as well or does the kit come with them? and running a 8.5" rear wheel would I need inboard or outboard bag mounts? Truly sorry for asking such dumb questions but after weeks of trying I cant get these answers and I want to get the parts ordered asap.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember On a Longbed
Yes you can run the dropmember on a long bed chassis.. Perches will be needed if your run the trailing arm setup.. Or you will not need them if you do a 4 link setup.. You can safely run up to a 10" wide wheel on a outboard bag setup.. If you need any help with parts from porterbuilt let me know how I can help my shop is authorized dealers for porterbuilt..

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember On a Longbed
You can run up to a 12" wide rear wheel with an outboard bag setup. It is a tight fit, but with the right backspace, it can be done.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember On a Longbed
Typically when running a 12" wide wheel we go with the inboard bag/outboard shock set-up.
Space is just at a premium with the 12. Get's really tight at the upper bag mount on the outboard bridge. Here's a pic of when we mocked up an inboard bag/outboard shock set-up.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember On a Longbed
Here is a picture of the chassis for the '63 we are building. While this is not the prime example, it is a good one, and will serve the purpose. Not the best angle, but will give an idea.
This wheel and tire combo measures 12" overall, so this is about 1"-1.25" narrower than what a 12" wide wheel will measure with a tire on it. The actual tire size will vary the overall width of the 12" wheel / tire setup. Assuming you go with a 335, your overall width will be around 13.125" wide. With all that said, this is the narrower axle, with a wheel backspace setup for a wider axle. This means the wheel and tire in the picture below is sitting .75" closer to the frame than it normally would. Right there we would gain .75" of room with this setup, having the right backspace on the wheel. Now, to account for the other .375" of width, we would come in a little, and also push it a little more to the outside. As mentioned, it is a tight fit, but can be done with outboard bags. Of course, inboard bags would make it easier and give you a little more breathing room. Hope this info helps.... |
