69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
Why a pace truck? Because Im going to paint it like a 69 Pace car Camaro, but that is a long ways off. I originally got this truck around 90 or 91 for $1500. By 97 I had put nearly 100k on it and used (abused) it well. During that time the original 350 had blown and I put a junkyard 305 in it. In late 97 I was told I was getting a divorce and the ex ended up with the truck. About 3 ½ years ago she gave it back to me after it had sat around for awhile because it wouldnt run. I got it to run and got it moved to my backyard where it had been sitting ever since. I finally got to the point where I had the finances (no wives, no child support, and no car payments) to rebuild my truck.
You can see by the pictures the progress to date. Its got a 3 ½ drop in the front with a 4 in the back. I may drop the rear some more after I get the body back on and see how it sets. The motor and trans is out of a 02 Camaro that had 40k on it. The rear has been rebuilt with 3:73s, an Eaton posi and a 5 lug conversion. Future plans include aftermarket A/C, one piece windows (somebody please tell us how the no triangle thing is going), bench seat out of a late model truck, Gaylord fiberglass tonneau cover, stock bumpers, cruise control, and white paint with orange rally stripes. I started 6 months ago and have a long way to go. Stay tuned for future updates. Ive been following the other LS1 builds and will probably be asking you guys question. On the other hand, if any one has questions please ask. Ill post this over at LS1Tech as well.

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
you probably already have this, but ....
Link to several other swap threads: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=125 Link to my 15-page buildup thread with pics: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370781 With that said - a lot of the guys are swapping in truck engines and not actual LS1's. I put an actual LS1 into my truck, so I probably have a lot of info to share with you specific to your particular swap - see that last thread link. Meanwhile, three questions for you: 1) did you notch your frame to clear the A/C compressor? 2) Did you notch your frame to clear the '02 stock manifolds - and if not, how'd you pull that one off? 3) What engine mounts did you use? ECE?

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
Looks great, nice detail! Quick question, whose tie rod adjusting sleeves are those? Looks alot nicer than the stock, More like a real turnbuckle, should work great!

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
Thanks for the encouraging words.
Shifty, I've been following your threads and that is what lead me to go with the LS1. I did notch the frame for the a/c compressor. I also notched the stock engine mount towers to clear the hose connection and to clear the egr boss on the manifold. I have not clearanced the frame for the exhaust manifold as of yet but it only needs a little bit. I used the motor mount adapter plates that are available from many sources and moved the towers back about an inch to gain oil pan clearance. I'll post a couple close up pics tonight. The disc brake conversion including tie rod adjusters came from Classic Performance Parts.

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
In post #3, what hitch are you using. It looks a lot like my Shelton that I didn't think I could use with my blazer tank. Did you have any problems and what solutions did you come up with?

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
GR8 Idea on the 69' Pace Truck!!
Progress is looking good to. I posted a couple pic's that I had of the 1969 Camaro Pace Car to give guys an Idea of what you are shooting for Like msgross mentioned. I'll say it again I think it's a GR8 IDEA!!! Are you going to do the interior in the 69' pace car style also? I have always liked the way the 69' pace car looks and I think the 69 pace truck will be just as cool. I'm subscribing to your build. RJ22...

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
Here's a pic of the frame clearance around the a/c compressor.
The hitch came from ECE. The only issues I had with the install were a little grinding on the forward most part for a bolt clearance and trying to get to the nuts inside the frame rails and next to the gas tank. I'm going to do the interior in black with possibly white houndstooth inserts in the seats. The gauges will be white faced with a black dash. Thanks for the PaceCar pics. I'm not going to run a cowl induction hood but it will have the fiberglass cover on the bed. I just like the idea of the orange rally strips on a white base.

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
Y'know, it almost looks like some headers that go out and over the frame rail would be a better deal - kinda like the Hooker side pipe headers for C3 'Vettes...?

Re: 69 LS1 C-10 Pace Truck build
The chassis is mostly done. Most of the metal work on the cab is done. I put it aside while I worked on a couple of other projects, a '28 roadster rat road and a custom chopper. I'll get back to it one of these days.

No updates, it's still sitting in the garage next to the chopper project which is now behind the 06 duramax salvage rebuild.

That truck with the Camaro front end isn't my style AT ALL.
Reminds me of this internet classic abomination... |
