Re: What is this?
Cool, I've seen the signs of a rebuild. I wonder if there is anyway of tracing that re-builder with those numbers? I'm getting ready to pull that motor and dont know the casting number yet, but get this...It has a blown head gasket on the left bank and water pours out of the left header but still lights them BFG's up with a 3:08 Posi! Thanks for the reply's John & Dave...

Re: What is this?
This looks like an IBM 'brass tag' used to identify tools and equipment. It may well be a 'rebuilders id tag' but it is a dead ringer for the IBM version that identified stuff in the manufacturing plants. I found the following definition in the IBM Jargon Dictionary (online) :
brass tag n. A small plate (originally made of brass, but now usually made of self-adhesive plastic) that shows the IBM serial number (stock number) of a piece of (non-IBM) capital equipment. It was considered a serious offence to remove the brass tag from a piece of equipment, though readers report that they sometimes kept as a souvenir the brass tag from a much-loved machine when it was scrapped. Not saying that is what it is, just sayin that's what it looks like. Brings back memories. Thanks

Re: What is this?
"Fleetside" I was under the understanding that Fleetsides were like this photo as opposed to Stepside? Hoovefish, I know the previous two owners. The old fella that bought it new owned a service station here in Falls City, Nebraska back in the day. He sold it to the woman I bought it from back in the 80's...Neither of them were remotely connected to IBM. I paid $500 for it four years ago...PS. It was and Ochre color with a white cab, the womans son pained it "pumpkin orange"...
