master cylinder leak

my master cylinder is leaking at the back. can i wait a couple months to replace it or do i need to fix it now?

One at the parts store will cost less than 20 bucks. Don't be cheap and risk killing somebody's family with bad brakes.

Buy a new master cylinder.

$20 or less as stated above, and only takes 30 minutes to install.
You don't want to drive anywhere with bad brakes.

BTW, don't forget to bench bleed the MC. It should have instructions with it.

Spend a few more $$ and get a new, not a rebuilt. I had 2 rebuilt ones on my truck....lasted a few years. The new one is still going strong after 5+ years.

While it is true that it needs to be replaced, and if you have 20 bucks, I say do it now....but I will go out on a limb and say I have driven a number of vehicles (including my 69 GMC) with the master leaking out the back for up to a year with absolutly no problems at all.
leagal disclaimer...I am in no way shape or form recomending you do this though...but in a pinch....

If the truck in question is a power brake truck, avoid driving it any longer than needed. If by chance the rear seal is dumping fluid into the booster it will weaken and possibly cause the diaphram in the booster to start leaking, causing lessened assist given by the booster.

where can i buy a good new master cylinder for $20? will a stock one work alright when i add rear disc brakes?
