CB Radio Set Ups

I know I can't be the only one who likes tooling around on the CB? I've seen several other threads on this, but not really a good collection as a whole.

I figured this thread would be a good place to show off your CB and antenna set-up, specs, and ask/answer CB questions.

Two questions to start it out:

1. For those with a sport bumper who are opposed to drilling holes in it or the body, is there any good way to mount an antenna in the rear? I've got a 4' whip im trying to find a good place to mount.

2. Did GM ever offere a factory (or dealer installed) dual antenna setup on the cowl? I'm a little different and like the look.

Over and out.

Re: CB Radio Set Ups

Subscribed - I've got two period correct GM 23 channel CB's I want to install but know nothing on how to go about it the right way. My Blazer still has a whip antenna that arcs along the driver side of the top.

Re: CB Radio Set Ups

I am in the process of buying a blazer with a CB set up. I will be removing it right away though. But I'll contribute to the thread.

Re: CB Radio Set Ups

I used to have an aftermarket CB radio in my pickup. I used the attached JCWhitney adapter to utilize the factory AM radio antenna on the cowl. The range wasn't the greatest, but I didn't have to mount a CB radio antenna.

Re: CB Radio Set Ups

Interesting. I have one for my truck too. I was going to put it int he dash instead of a radio and use the two radio knob holes for aux cig lighter ports. I just need to find a good way to mount the antenna. I have never seen the JC Whitney adapter Can you still buy these?

Re: CB Radio Set Ups

my dad has a GM CB from the early '70s.
the guys at the GM Tech Center wired it to plug into the cig lighter. also has a short, clip on antenna that goes out the window. the range was about 10 miles.
the whole thing fits in a Samsonite hard briefcase.
we used it for "smokey reports" while traveling.

it's pretty handy if you have more than one vehicle.
