1962 GMC 3/4 ton
I was wondering if anyone new of a conversion kit for a 62 GMC 3/4ton pickup, where I can change my drum brakes to disc and still keep the eight lug bolt pattern.

when i bought my c20 the PO was doing just that with 8 lug donor parts from a mid 80's 3/4 ton chevy truck, i think i may even still have the spindles and rotors, let me know if you are interested. mine is a 66 so i don't know how different they are from your 62, other guys on this board will surely know.

just buy a crossmember and suspension from a 73-87 chev gmc 3/4 ton, and swap it in, you will have to drill all the bolt holes except 2, but other than that it is a bolt in, switch the brake booster and power steering with brackets that you can get from captian fab here on the board.

I agree with Jon. Just find yourself a '71-'87 C20 parts truck to use for conversion parts. All the C20 pickups up thru '87 and C20 Suburbans thru '91 were 8 lug. Doing the disc brake conversion on a C20 is essentially the same as on a C10. Here is a thread with a bunch of info......

I don't know of any disc conversion kit for the 60-62 C-20 that allows you to keep your stock spindles or control arms.
Just so you know, if you do the crossmember swap, this means you will have to give up the torsion bars. If that's not a problem, the crossmember is the easiest way to go. Ray Last edited by raycow; 06-08-2010 at 05:44 AM. |

Thanks guys, for the info. I never thought about doing the crossmember swap. The torsion bars are not that big of a deal to me, but I do like the way they ride. However, the truck had a 305 v6 in it and I swaped this out for a small block 350. We all know that with this engine swap I had to use different motor mounts, which bolt up to the front of the motor. So, my question is will I, have to again get different motor mounts or will this still work.

If you change the suspension crossmember, yes you will have to change the motor mounts to the side mounts. That is unless of course you would rather cut and weld the front mount bracket to the new crossmember. If it were me, I would go with the side mounts.

IMO, the side mounts are the better way to go, because parts for the stock 60-62 V-8 front mount are pretty scarce. In fact, I am surprised that you were able to find the bracket that bolts to the front of the block.
