Prebent fuel and brake lines ...... Opinions?

I've got a truck who lived its live in mid Ohio and their rough winters. The steel fuel and brake lines have taken a beating and need to be replaced.

Are the prebent steel lines a good choice? Are they close enough to original so they mate at each end?

I've bent my own before but really haven't been satisfied with my final product so I may be leaning towards this unless I hear some horror stories from the experts out there.

What say you all????

www.inlinetube.com is supposed to be pretty good. I am going to buy another tube bender and give bending my own another shot. Since I've cleaned up my basement I can now bend in there rather than my junked up garage.

Do you have old lines to match? How do you know what to bend without being under the truck?

I used inlinetube for a GMC K10. Pre-bent SS was very nice. Had to be massaged in a few places, but would definately use them again. Bruce

Inlinetube, Finelines, Rightstuff all make good quality prebent line sets.

I used inlinetube pre-bent oem steel - worked great. Don't be surprised when the long front to back line comes bent in half - it is supposed to, it has a gentle bend that you simply "unwind" to make it straight again. Doesn't have to be perfect, it's in a location where it will straighten itself out once the rest of the ends are connected.

If bending my own, I always use regular steel lines to avoid the splitting that can occur sometimes when flaring stainless. But, with pre-bent, you're pretty much good to go with ss or steel. If you only need to replace a few, then bending them yourself is a good way to go - but most companies break the line system into areas, and you buy those that you need, or a complete kit.

Thanks guys for all the quick responses. This truck needs almost all of the lines replaced so I think I'm going with a prebent kit.

I appreciate the manufacturer options too, I wasn't aware of a few of them.

Now, who wants to come over and install all of this? I'm sure it won't take long.

Oh yes, I have my old lines.

Brother, if I could get over there, I'd love to help you. The thing is, I'm long on enthusiasm but rather short on experience. And time, I'm very short on time.

Thanks man, I need lots of luck! Here of late I have been sidetracked. Owning a house and living alone is a lot of work...right now I am beefing up my structural security what with all the break-ins in this area.

I have replaced every line, on many vehicles over the years. I have used Inline Tube, Classic Tube, The Right Stuff, and a few others. Never had any major grief. I would definitely recommend pre-bent, as they are a huge time saver!

Don't blame you there. It sucks having to worry about protecting your stuff. Make sure you protect yourself in the process.

I did my entire brake system with the inline tube SS set. It fit pretty good. there were a couple of spots where I had to massage the bends a little, but overall no issue.

I just re-plumbed my AD truck with Fedhill Cunifer alloy lines. They are DOT approved, will not rust, and the flares come out perfect every time, plus you can bend them with your bare hands. Tom at Fedhill is enormously helpful and will loan you (for $25 to cover round trip shipping) a professional flaring tool for 2 weekends, which comes with a tubing cutter, file and even a roll of solder for mocking up your lines, when you buy lines from him.

The only thing that leaked in the whole job was the residual valves - used the aluminum ones, then found a million threads here, on the HAMB and on Stovebolt directing me to use the brass ones from ECI. They are on order.
