temp sensor connector name - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone know the proper name of the connector to use for a temp sensor that looks like a nail head? The previous owner cut it off and used the idiot lights instead of the gauge. I like to pick one up at NAPA to see if that fixes my temp gauge problem.

It isn't original, but I have always used a female spade connector. It needs to be opened up a little to fit but it works.

That connection is called a slider.

I cool parts person at the dealer should be able to find you one. In the "shop" side of the counter they usually have drawers or bins with all of the different connecters. You may also find them in the Help section at the auto parts store but the quality of connecters varies quite a bit. Also try sending an email to Sallee Chevrolet, they have a really good parts department.

Thanks, But the three guys at NAPA had never seen them before so they sold me the spade lug type (for idiot light) that type will not work with the temp gauge in the cluster.

Try asking for a female GM 56 series connector. There is a connector housing that allows you to slide the connector on and give it some protection. Good luck trying to find the housing, but the connectors are pretty common.

I know I have seen the cinector some where but I cant remember. This is what your looking for with the wire and heat covering

That's a nice little kit. It takes the connector I was talking about and has the connector body and what looks like the original style heat covering. It is for corvette, but common to all chevy.

Try this site: http://www.sherco-auto.com/cg.htm They seem to have both the terminal and the insulator. The part # is CG7 for the GM 56 series female connector and part # CG45 for the insulator.

Ok, so my new temp sending unit also came with the plastic sleeve. Is the terminal under the sleeve just a female 56 series connector?

For anyone that finds this thread later, the correct connector is a female 56 style terminal (Napa part# NW 725147). The temp sensor comes with the plastic sleeve.
