10 bolt crush sleeve problems
Rebuilding my 10 bolt in a 84 c10. New install kit, differential and ring gear. When I set my pinion preload or turning torque as some would call it I achieve the right pinion preload before the crush sleeve actually crushes. Anybody ever have this problem ?

Re: 10 bolt crush sleeve problems
I agree....I've never done a rear end before but Before I opened it up I did my research. But I've found that the crush sleeve that came in the kit is .550 inches long. The OEM crush sleeve from Napa is .630 inches long...I'm beginning to wonder if that could be part of the problem

Re: 10 bolt crush sleeve problems
Forget the crush sleeve and get a pinion bearing preload spacer w/shims made by Ratech or Richmond. Much easier way to set your pinion bearing preload accurately.

Do the shims change the amount of preload that can be applied ?

Re: 10 bolt crush sleeve problems
Ok Im picking up what your putting down. I might just go that route because I know for a fact I have a 8.5 inch 10 bolt. So I know the parts I bought were correct but this crush sleeve nonsense has me wanting to set fire to it lol. Anyway thanks for the input....a solid spacer will also be better for when that 200 horse 350 starts to make some more POWWAH
