Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

Greetings
Finally getting around to installing the skid plates I scored for my 72.
Can anyone post up pics of how the tank skid plate mounts to the frame.
Thanks in advance

Re: Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

Tbruz,

I'm surprised no one's answered your question. I recently R&R'd my tank to clean it. My skid plate is still out. I'll try and get some pics for you this weekend. They pretty much just use long, approx. 5/16" bolts that have a hook on the top end that grabs holes in the frame and the other end is threaded, which goes through wholes in the edges of the skid plate.

I'll verify this weekend and get back to you.

Re: Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

All you need to do is drill 4 holes in the frame to mount it up. Some bolts, flat and lock washers and your good to go! That's if it is a stock skid plate. Mine came off a 1972 2wd suburban. Just bolted mine back on, and posted some pic's on my thread on the projects site a while back. Not the best pic's, but you can see it just bolts to the frame.

Re: Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

Tbruz, swyfor5 is right. I dont know what made me think it uses the long bolts with hooks. I took mine out last winter to clean & fix the tank. I left the bolts (3/8 x 1/12-2) in the frame that you can see. If I remember right, orientation is the angled end faces forward. There's also another plate that protects the fuel inlet & vent lines.

Man, I've been trying to upload pictures and cant get it done. I'll try again tonight. If you hold the skid plate up against the frame over the tank, you'll see the bolt holes in the frame flange that hold it up.

Please do. I just picked up a fuel tank skid plate that was previously removed by the PO because he installed a 36 gallon tank. I'm putting in a new 21 gallon poly tank. I have no idea if I'm missing bolts/hardware or where it lines up on the frame

Thanks,

Re: Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

Hey guys, I hope you all don't consider this a hijack. Still on the subject of fuel tank skid plates!

Warbucket's super-clean setup made me want to ask if the skid plate is aftermarket or GM? It dawned on me looking at his pics that the abused one I recently got may have been the same as that nice one. It's rough, and I thought it was probably a home-made deal. Came off of a '72 Blazer.

Thanks in advance---DAC

Re: Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

From what I've learned through a few of the members here is that they came stock. I picked one up a few weeks ago and had it powder coated. Came out real nice.

Dark Olive, Here's some more pics showing bolt hole orientation. You can see where my bolts are coming through the frame flange in relation to the parts near them.

Re: Pic needed of gas tank skid plate mount

I believe the one you got it a stock one. It looks identical to most of the ones I've seen.
