Three piece speedometer cable
My 1979 Silverado has factory cruise control and what I can only describe as a three piece speedometer cable. There is a short section that runs from the tranmission to the "middle" piece. The middle piece is the longest and is pressed into a metal bracket to guide it up around exhaust and to the cruise control unit on the driver's side inner fender. The last piece runs from the cruise control unit to the instrument cluster. The middle piece needs replacing and I can't find anything new from the usual places. Any suggestions?

Re: Three piece speedometer cable
Is it the housing that is bad or just the inner cable? Autozone has an inner cable replacement piece that I am going to try out soon as I have a super long speedo cable and my speedo jumps. I think it is the cable.

Re: Three piece speedometer cable
If you have no luck finding what you need, might want to convert to a 1 peice lower cable. My '81 has a one piece cable to the transducer (63"). Search speedometer cable on rockauto, look at trucks, late 70's, early 80's monte carlos as well, and any other fullsize car until you find a cable that is suitable.

Re: Three piece speedometer cable
They always give me that universal cable at AutoZone, and so far it has worked every time. It is just the inner though. Cut to length and stamp an end on it.

Re: Three piece speedometer cable
Thanks for the suggestions. As far as I can tell, it is just the cable, so I will try a universal cable and cut it to length.

Re: Three piece speedometer cable
One other thing to think about is why and how did the last cable go bad. Did it simply twist into a point? Or did it fray? Did it scar the inside of the cable housing? If it scarred the housing, you will more than likely have issues again.
