72, water on floor board, from?

ok, I had the truck since summer and now that it is raining pretty darn good I noticed the passenger side floor was wet. I know I have a new window and window seal on the front and door trim seals. so my question is, where are the possible locations and or places on the cab that will leak... where do I start looking

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

i think you may have answered your own question. Before I read the second half of your thread, I was going to guess the window seal. Then when I read you just had the window+seal replaced, that kind of seals the deal (no pun intended). if you paid a shop, take it back and have them re-do, even though a pain in the butt. Possibly lower passenger side of windhsield seal leaking.

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

Underneath the cowl there are quite a few areas where there are sealant where parts come together. Over the years this sealant will harden and crack.

Also water can come in around the windshield wiper motor shaft under the cowl.

These are just a few areas, hopefully others will add more info.

Maybe the antenna cable hole in the cab
Cowl vent drain clogged with leaves

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

I know my truck personally does this only when I take it through the car wash. I end up with a pool of water on the passenger side floor mat. On my truck it is a hole in the cowl that drops straight down into the passenger floor. It's not big but you notice it when you pressure wash it. Try on a sunny day looking up from your passenger side floorboard you will see where the water is coming from.Must be a Chevy thing.

Check the antenna cable, and where it comes in from the outside.
Have seen it where the water will follow the cable, and drip where the cable droops the lowest. Usually right where the passengers feet would be.

Take some silicone and seal the hole where the cable comes through.

Ah, sorry, I kinda read your thread thinking you replaced them and then, all of a sudden, a leak... If lots of water exposure and no problems, then no, probably good there. Once a new seal is proven good, it'll be good a long time probably. Sorry bout the confusion.

I agree on the inner cowl being suspect #1. My 67 had a spot where the sealer was out and leaked onto the passenger floorboard.

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

When mine leaked it was through the hole for the antenna wire. There is a rubber gromit that fits into this hole and allows the wire to run through it. I popped the gromit back into the hole and haven'tad a problem since.

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

So, your kick panels are rust-free? Is there no dirt/trash accumulated in the base of that panel, like just inside the vents?

The previous owner of my truck was trying to find the source of similar leaks to your and used the wrong silicone sealer and created a swiss-cheesed firewall, along with a lackametal around the wiper motor....which fell out one morning....in the rain.

So, after you take the plenum grille off from in front of the windshield, you'll have better views.

check your drip rail sealant above the windshield. If its old and cracked that could be a problem also.

This was my problem. I'd get an inch of water in the glove box. I watched water follow the cable then drip into the stapled side of the glove box. Giant blob of RTV on the antenna cable hole, problem fixed.

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

I have a second 72 chevy a lwb. Recently my daily driver was hit by a ford
and totaled out a 2003 chevy truck no notes. I had to start driving the old
chevy daily. When it rained water fell right on my left foot and I noticed the
passenger side the same. I have read the replies and tore all that applies apart,I find one part not mentioned. The channel that holds the electricals
for starter engine temp etc held on by 3 5/16 screws need to be pulled and
sealed it has factory sealant inside front on that channel with a seam all the
way across the cowling area. I"ve done that it is suppose to rain here in tx
tomorrow I will find out first hand and post a reply to this one. Before u
mention it I know I could run the water hose. If there is no rain I will.

Mine has a rust hole behind the glove box. It leaks on top of the AC box and then drips on the floor.

Thats what I was going to suggest, does the water smell clean, or like antifreeze? I would suggest just running it inside the garage/shop for a bit out of the rain and see if it is leaking. If not, then you have a seal issue with the oitside world

Re: 72, water on floor board, from?

Oh, one other siggestion, is it carpet? If so you may want to look for a small hole in the foor pan, the carpet will wic the water over a larger area making it seemblike its a big leak, when its actually an old screw hole in the floor pan.... seen that befor first hand.
