Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
I found a winch bumper on craigslist. It is on a 73-87 body style, I'm trying to figure out if it will bolt up, or only have to slightly be modified, to my 70 GMC K2500. I believe it is a warn from my research http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=621775. I attached some pictures from the ad. Are the frame rails atleast the same width to where they could swap over?

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
I would say it will bolt up with minor mods to the brackets for install on a 67-72. The 81-91 frame horns are a bit different where the bumpers bolt up to the frame. At the very least you would have to drill new holes in the existing brackets or worst, build new brackets. I bought 3 “Warn” winch bumpers over the past few years and only 1 is a true Warn winch bumper (Mosesburb found it for me in AZ). The other two were advertised as Warns although they aren’t really Warn. After looking at all 3 the Warn, which is most commonly known, has the most flimsy construction of them all. Not to say the Warn bumpers are bad, it just isn’t was well built as the other that are not made by Warn. I’d still by another Warn today if one popped up. I’d say go for it!

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
Thanks for the input Larry. That is kind of what I was thinking. The owner is emailing me some pictures of the brackets to give me an idea of mounting. Do you think the back side of the bumper will match up fairly well to the body or not?

Don't know for sure but I suspect it would be pretty close.

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
I had the great opportunity to go on a six month internship at Warn Industries recently (just finished the internship last Friday), so I hope I can add a little input. All of those Warn bumpers were made exactly the same for all GM trucks, fords, and dodges. The only differences between them were the mounting brackets, this includes the changes in body styles in those years as well. So that bumper you are looking at will look the same on your truck as one that was made for your body style GMC. All you have to do is make those brackets work, which I don't know how difficult that will be.

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
I have one of those bumpers on an '85 blazer sitn out back. It seems to be the same as a bud's bumper on his '72 as everything measures out the same, just slightly different brackets. I'm not sure if the '73 up brackets would work on the 67-72's tho.
383blazer, you in the B-root?

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
Well I had my dad pick up the bumper. $100!!! and it is a Warn. From the measurements I think it should slide onto the frame and should only have to drill some holes. We will see!

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
Does anyone by chance have any pictures of the 67-72 mounting brackets? That way I can compare and see if there would be a better way to mount the bumper.

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
So, update. I got the bumper mounted up. It slid right onto the frame rails. I had to drill three holes on each side. Two through the frame (using two holes in the bumper). One through the bumper bracket (using the frame slot). The original "outrigger" type bumper brackets for my truck were too short for the winch bumper. I may be able to use the later ones, not sure on that yet. Anyways, now I'm just looking for a used 8274 winch or I may end up using a VR8000. Here are some pictures.

Re: Warn Winch bumpers compatibility
Well I finally got a winch in there! I had originally bought a VR8000 for it because of the lack of and the cost of 8274. After setting the VR in the bumper it barely fit the opening and would not work because of the offset winch mounting on the bumper. Later I picked up a 8274 and homemade bumper for $250. The winch needed a new motor and about everything else. After a rebuild she fit like a glove and works great. Anyways here are some pictures. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
